Travis Webber was born in South Australia in 1900. He died in 1968. He studied at the South Australian School of Arts where he went on to teach. Webber established himself as one of the Australia's most prolific landscape artists. His work is held in several large galleries.Bluestone building with a shingle roof. The Geelong Rest located at 3 Moorabool Street was created in 1895. The building depicted in the photograph ( taken from the Western Beach Road) is known as the King Edward VII Sailors' Rest building; it was designed by architect Percy Everett and replaced the older building in 1912. In 1901, it became the Geelong branch of the Mission to Seamen. Private bus parked outside the former lavishly signed State Savings Bank in Moorabool St on the SE corner with Corio St. The bus provided a direct route to West Geelong (Church St and possibly to the stockyards west of Pakington St, via Clarence and Elizabeth Sts. The law court buildings on the corner of Russell and La Trobe Streets (Melbourne) were later to house the Supreme Court of Victoria. The law courts were built in 1842. The inscription by Dorothy Rogers [sic] incorrectly describes the builders as Swanson Bros., who instead were the builders of the later Magistrates Court on the same site. Matchbox containing architectural fragments from the old law courts [Supreme Court] in Russell Street. The matchbox has a label on the front and more detailed information included in a note inside the box.
