This ledger has entries which relate to work completed at the time including the Kirkstall school, Miss Murray of Waikato, W Fletcher, tender to Fritz Landman and work on St John’s Presbyterian Church, the Warrnambool Race Club and works for J.J Forrester.This ledger provides a snapshot of daily life in the early 1900’s and documents the type of work completed by tradesman and their associated costs. This tin came from the Sunshine Biscuit Factory in Ballarat. James Long established a confectionery business in Ballarat in 1854 and in 1921 it was known as the Sunshine Biscuit Company. In 1923 the factory was destroyed by fire and rebuilt. During World War Two 80% of the factory products went to the armed services. In 1947 the company was known as Ballarat Products Ltd and in 1962 it was called Sunshine Biscuits Ltd. In 1977 the factory was used to produce dry pet food (Friskies). The building was closed in 1991 and the site developed to include a supermarket, shops and housing. Up till about the late 1950s biscuits were mostly not packaged but sold loose by the pound in grocery stores from tins such as this. Broken biscuits were also sold at a cheaper price. Some biscuits were also sold at that time in smaller tins. This tin is of interest as an example of the tins from which biscuits were sold in the first half of the 20th century. It will be useful for display.This is a rectangular-shaped biscuit tin which is much rusted. The tin has a multi-coloured paper label that has been pasted around the sides. Much of this label has been torn away. The label shows images of biscuits. This is the 1982 Annual Report for Lyndoch Home and Hospital for the Aged, Warrnambool. It contains lists of Board Members, a President’s Report, Lyndoch’s Aims, financial reports, photographs and a list of Life Governors. Lyndoch Home for the Aged was established in 1952 and has developed with a wide range of facilities for the aged since that date. The original Lyndoch property near the mouth of the Hopkins River was owned by a Melbourne tea merchant, George Rolfe, who bought the land when there were on the site only a couple of cottages and a larger building which had been a school, Warrnambool Grammar, run by Henry Kemmis. Rolfe acquired the land in the 1870s and named the property Lyndoch after the town in the Barossa Valley where he had lived. He owned Lyndoch for 44 years and it was his stepdaughter, Florence Lake who built in the 1920s the bungalow known as Lyndoch which forms the original building of the Lyndoch Home for the Aged, Today the facility is called Lyndoch Living. This 1982 report is kept for the benefit of researchers wanting details of the history of Lyndoch over the past 30 or 40 years. This is a publication with information on the Hampden Football Netball League at the time of its 75th anniversary. The Hampden Football League was established in 1930 as a breakaway competition in response to the Western District League’s abolition of sectional competition. The League went into recess during World War Two. In 1987 netball became part of the League’s administration. The Hampden League is one of the important rural football and netball leagues in Victoria. This publication is of interest as an important source of local information on the history of the Hampden Football Netball League. This bookmark was found loose inside one of our antiquarian books and no connection to the book or its unknown original owner have been found. The word Mizpah means Watchtower in Hebrew and a Mizpah card or bookmark was sent or given to Jewish people who were separated from their loved ones, with the message that the Lord was watching over those absent. The bookmark has been made by the firm of Thomas Stevens of Coventry. This city was the English centre of ribbon weaving in the 19th century and Thomas Stevens, a local weaver, invented and developed in the 1860s the art of making woven silk items - book marks, greeting cards, art works etc. These were called Stevengraphs. Stevens opened a factory in London in 1878 and by the 1880s was producing over 900 woven silk designs. Stevengraphs are a collectors' Items today and this Mizpah bookmark is a fine example of one.This is a woven silk bookmark with multi-coloured patterns. coloured script and a sprig of fuchsia flowers, all on a yellow background. There is a red tassel at the end of the bookmark. The bookmark was affixed to a rectangular sheet of paper containing details of the maker but the bookmark is now detached. This book is the story of modern Warrnambool, describing aspects of the city from the 1980s to 2015. It looks at such topics as religion, law, population, housing, infrastructure, employment, industry, health, education and politics. The author, Gordon Forth, was formerly a lecturer in the Faculties of Education and Arts and the Director of the Centre for Regional Development at Deakin University in Warrnambool. He has written and edited a number of books dealing with Warrnambool and district history. Mark Rashleigh, responsible for the design and lay-out of the book and many of the photographs, was a lecturer in visual communication and graphic design in the Faculty of Arts at Deakin University and is now involved with the Warrnambool and District Historical Society in the preparation and cataloguing of historical photographs.The book is of some importance as it is the only comprehensive study of Warrnambool over the past 30 years and complements ‘By These We Flourish’, the story of Warrnambool’s people, places and events up to the 1980s. This book was published in 2017 to mark the centenary of the Warrnambool sub branch of the Returned Services League of Australia. It was produced by Avis Quarrell herself a world war 2 servicewoman and well known in the Warrnambool district for her photography, historical writing and involvement with Flagstaff Hill Maritime Village. The Warrnambool R.S.L. was established in 1917 and the War Memorial was erected in 1926. The Warrnambool R.S.L. is one of the oldest in Australia and this book records its history at the time of its centenary.This is a soft cover book of 100 pages . She knitted many garments for family and friends. This telephone directory of 1969 has entries from the Camperdown, Casterton, Colac, Edenhope, Hamilton, Portland and Warrnambool districts. The directory came from the Nullawarre Post Office at the time when Charles Williams was the Post Master (mid 20th century) and delivered two runs of mail a day. His wife, Vida was the Post Mistress. Nullawarre is a small agricultural settlement 25 kilometres south east of Warrnambool and today has a general store, Post Office and school. This telephone directory, which has local provenance (Nullawarre Post Office), will be of great use to researchers as it contains the names and addresses of private individuals and businesses in the Western District of Victoria in 1969. It is also of interest as many of the entries give the names of the country properties at that time and the entries are listed separately under the names of the various towns. This is a soft-cover booklet of 392 pages. The front cover is multi-coloured and has a photograph of a parrot and the back cover has an advertisement in blue and white. There are 200 white pages and 192 pink pages of telephone numbers in Western Victoria in 1969. These caps were donated by Blake Thompson who with his wife started skiing at Falls Creek in 1979 and were members of Aurora Lodge for many years. They wore these hats at Falls Creek and Cedarwood Lodge which had a bar in the 1990s and was seen as “the place to go.” Cedarwood was built about 1979 by Peter Hyndman. It was a large lodge with over 100 beds. Survey Corps Flags of this type were produced mid to late 1970's and distributed to all Survey Corps Units. This flag was issued to 4 Fd Svy Sqn and flew during daylight hours on the Unit flag pole at Keswick Barracks, Adelaide from issue until 1995. The flag was signed by about 160 of the 208 attendees at the Ceremonial closing of the Unit on 25 November 1995. A photograph of attendees at the Closing Ceremony is at item 6542.1P and the list of names at 6542.2P and they are stored in Box 278. The Survey Corps Flag that was issued to the Army Survey Regiment is at item 6177 and is stored in Box 218.A full size Corps Flag, purple with 18cm horizontal white stripe.
