Initially the Eltham War Memorial Trust had invited the Lieutenant Governor of Victoria, Lieut-General Sir Edmund Herring to perform the opening ceremony however he was not available. World War 2 Soldiers’ Memorial 1999. "In remembrance WW2 and Korean War, Malaysia, Borneo, Vietnam". The unveiling ceremony of the memorial was held on Sunday Nov 4th, 1956, by Lieutenant Edmond Herring. KCMG. DSO. MC. EO. The ceremony was dedicated "To the men of Stawell and District who paid the supreme sacrifice in World War 2 and Korean War. Two black & white photos taken in 1999 of World War 2 memorial.
