Central Australia Trip report. 15th September to 2nd October 1993 This trip was attended by five leaders, seven scouts and two venturers. It was a great trip which was enjoyed by all who attended. The countryside was quite different to what we expected and we were lucky enough to see all the wild flowers out. The highlight of the trip were: Flying over Ayres Rock [Uluru] and the Olgas Climbing the rock Riding a camel Walking through King’s Canyon A tour through Cooper Pedy including an underground house McDonalds for lunch on the last day Everyone got on well and there were no injuries or car problems. Four flat tyres were our only problem. Our only complaints were the flies and the strong wind. Central Australia was well worth a visit. -

Token x 3, Tokens: Armstrong shoes, Circa 1968 -1987
These tokens are customer reward tokens which can be redeemed for a discount when making a later purchase. The practice of using tokens was prevalent in the early settlement of Australia when shop owners issued tokens as a form of currency. These are three of a number of tokens issued by Armstrong shoes which was established by Max Armstrong who once lived in Warrnambool and helped to run the family shoe business here. He was an excellent rower and on his arrival in Warrnambool worked towards reviving the Warrnambool Rowing Club.Interesting items with social and historical significance.001047.1 Round white metal token with penny farthing enclosed in circle on one side and lady’s button up boot. Painting - watercolour, No 2 Internment Camp, 1945
This painting is for the Museum. It was a gift to me by an ex prisoner, whom I met when he came to Melbourne with Vic, Nicky and others. His name is Luigi Poggioli and he was a most distinguished gentleman, so distinct and well educated that I still remember him clearly (and I do not have a good memory). Perhaps I remember so well because of his kind words in verse on the painting which read :(Translation) "Ungrateful land with handsome race of Italian blood who with their hard work enriched you". Yes I believe I remember so well because of this verse. Extract from a letter from Mrs Tolaini now living in London. She is the Wife of Vittorio Tolaini who was on the Dunera and wrote of his experiences in "Voyage of an Alien" June 1991. Framed watercolour painting - 11 trees in foreground, one small hut facing towards bottom right hand corner, 4 large huts centre of painting, black writing in Italian left and right foreground. Document - Navigation Chart, Admiralty Office, Lady Bay and Warrnambool Harbour, 03/04/1871
This Chart titled “Lady Bay and Warrnambool Harbour” was surveyed by Nav. Lieut. H.J. Stanley, of Britain's Royal Navy, in 1870 and printed in April 1871. The chart was made before the Warrnambool Breakwater was built (construction had begun in 1874 and was completed in 1890). The chart includes Directions for entering Lady Bay, Warrnambool Harbour. These are "Vessels entering Warrnambool Harbour must bring the Red Light in sight and steer in with it in line with the upper white Light bearing North, until the Green Light on the Jetty is opened, when steer towards it and anchor. The best anchorage is in 2 ¼ fms [fathoms)] of water, about a cable from ledge off Breakwater rock. Or where convenient, according to draught of water, only endeavouring to anchor as close as possible to Breakwater rock. It is not safe to enter or leave the Harbour in south westerly or Southerly gales.” This chart is significant for its strong connection to the maritime history of Warrnambool Harbour and Lady Bay, and eventually to the Warrnambool Breakwater. The Warrnambool Breakwater is registered as a place of significance on the Victorian Heritage Database (VHR H2024). A copy of the same chart was used to plan several submissions for future changes to the jetty and breakwater. The chart is a historical record of structures existing in 1870; the Warrnambool Jetties, Lady Bay, the leading lights (lighthouses), streets, roads, bridges and many buildings. It also shows the lay of the land and seabed.Canvas chart of Australia, South Coast, Victoria Title: Lady Bay and Warrnambool Harbour Surveyed by Nav. Lieut. H.J. Stanley, R.N., 1870. Ruyton Girls' School
Newsletter, Ruyton Reports, 1988
The Ruyton Reporter (formerly known as Ruyton Reports) captures the essential Ruyton Girls' School experience for the broader school community. It has been produced since 1986.The record has strong historic significance as it pertains to one of the oldest girls' school in Victoria, Australia. Ruyton was founded in 1878 in the Bulleen Road, Kew, home of newly widowed Mrs Charlotte Anderson (now High Street South). Thus, the record can be used as a reference example for research into Victorian school history. It also gives insight into the types of activities and events undertaken at Ruyton Girls' School during the period of its production. The record's significance is further enhanced by its exceptionally well-documented provenance, having remained the property of Ruyton Girls' School since its production.Black and white newsletter printed on paper with staple binding. 8 pages.Front Page: Vol. 3 No. 1 / Vol. 3 No. 1 April, 1988 / Registered by Australia Post / Publication No. VBH8187 / R / RECTE ET FIDE LITER / RUYTON / 1878 - 1988 Reports / From Ruyton Girls' School / 12 Selbourne Road, Kew. 3101 / Telephone (03) 819 2422 / Stage One / Well / Underway / S2/7 /ruyton girls' school, ruyton, school, students, newsletter, ruyton reports, ruyton news, kew, victoria, melbourne, girls school -
