Drawing shows the proposed layout of the Swanston St underground tram line at Flinders St. Shows the tram stop, the layout of the access to the stop, Flinders St and Princes Bridge stations, the demolition of Young and Jacksons Hotel, a railway booking office. This was part of a project that was for undergrounding of a number of tram lines in Melbourne during the early to mid 1960s. A four motor bogie drop centre combination tram of the Melbourne W7 class No. 1029, built at Preston Workshops during 1956, entered service on 1/2/1956. Fitted with sliding doors, Remote Control equipment. See webpage btm.org.au/trams/504.html Spent it appears all its life at Preston or North Fitzroy Depot. Functional object - Journal or ticket record wallet, Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board (MMTB), c1920s
Used to hold the ticket records or trip journals of a conductor. Stamped initially for use by the St Kilda - Ackland St. cable tram depot, no. 198. Also has number 144, letter R, letter A. Possibly made when the MMTB introduced paper tickets onto the cable trams. See item 8349 for another example. Cover has "nicks" in the top and bottom edges where rubber bands would have been used to retain the paper journal.Demonstrates a cable tram era leather journal cover used tor record trips and tickets sold.Journal or ticket record wallet, consisting of two very heavy and hard pieces of brown coloured leather joined by a sewn (light brown cotton) lighter piece of leather to form a foldable wallet.
