Ribbon awarded to Mr Charles Wilson Peel of 'Callenondah' at Gnawarre. Mr Peel ran a superfine merino stud. This ribbon is from the Geelong Agricultural & Pastoral Society 1959 Show and was awarded Champion for Sample of Merino Lambs Wool. Red, white and blue wool ribbon with yellow tassels on short ends. Yellow stitched/stamped text. Text is divided across the three coloured panels which are stitched together with white thread. -

Rug
The rug was made at Albion Mill in Geelong. It was owned by Mr Angus Peter and Ms Mary Anne Downie, the parents of Mary Virr (the donor). They lived in Cobden. Ms Downie's family had several connections to the Geelong wool industry, in particular the Albion Mill. See attached histories and family tree.W7214 W7214 reverse. The rug was made at Albion Mills in Geelong. It was owned by Norman Downie, the uncle of Mary Virr (the donor) who inherited the rug after Mr Downie's death in the early 1990s. Mr Downie and his family had several connections to the wool industry in Geelong. He would send pieces of fabric out to Mrs Virr and her mother in Cobden every year. 1. John Knox Abbey (1863 - 27/7/1938) was originally a landowner in Rochester. He married Ethel May Winch in 1897 and their children were all born in Rochester. Sometime after 1918 he inherited the "Cluny" estate in Penola, SA., from his uncle William MacPherson. He died and was buried in a private graveyard on this property. 2. Also mentioned in the estate papers is G. (Gertrude) Alice Jones. Miss Jones was one of the first females to be admitted to the bar (1912) and was the first female to appear before the court in Bendigo. The Moggs Creek Moving Clickers Society wee responsible for perpetuating the hoax that Sir Samuel Moggs discovered Aireys Inlet before the arrival of the First Fleet. The Testimonial to Uriah Whidycombe is one of a number of versions; others are in the collections of the State Library of Victoria and the Royal Historical Society of Victoria. This version is officially the oldest object in Kew Historical Society's collection. Tickets printed and issued by the Victorian Railways for the St Kilda to Brighton electric street railway or tramway. The line closed in sections with the last section between the railway station and Elwood Depot closing in 1959. All tickets numbered for accounting purposes.Yields information about the VR Ticketting System for its TramwayslSet of 7 Victorian Railways St Kilda Brighton ticket blocks. Printed on white sheets, stapled at the top with a large staple onto a cardboard backing strip. Each value in red ink with black print information. Each block has the ticket number printed on the stub of the ticket that remained with the block when torn off.
