Quinn CollectionA three page letter written on three sheets of unlined, buff-coloured paper (0908.a1-3). Letter is headed 542 Jersey Street, San Francisco, phone AJ 2-0309 and dated 20/12/52. The matching envelope (0908.b) is addressed to Mr Allen [sic] Quinn. It has been re- addressed from C/- Australia House, The Strand, London, England to 8 Gloucester Walk, W8. Written in the top left hand corner is N Cowley, 542 Jersey St. S.F. Calif. Below this is a purple post office 'Returned To Sender From San Francisco Postage Due.' stamp . This is partially obscured by one of the five three-cent postage stamps placed across the top and down the right hand side of the envelope. 'Air Mail' is written diagonally across the lower left hand corner. On the back is a partially legible postmark dated 2 January 1953. The postmark on the front is illegible. Letter commences "Dear Allen [sic]...." and concludes "...Merry Xmas and Happy New Year from Pat, Darline, Allen and Norman your Yavla Swenska Shipmate,"letters-from-abroad, allan quinn, london, norm cowley

Quinn CollectionA single sheet of unlined paper folded in half (book-form) to give four pages (0372a) and written on three and a half pages. Letter written on board S.S.Morgenster, Capetown and dated 21/03/48. Blue-lined envelope (0372b). 0372a bears printed 'South-African Marine Corporation' letter-head and company flag. 0372b bears two blue South African stamps on right upper corner and a blue 'Par Avion' label on the left. There is, what appears to be, a shopping list penciled on the backletters-from-abroad, quinn, s.s.morgenster, 1948

Robert Reid & Co. Ltd was a textile, clothing and footwear retailer between 1919-1966. The company was bought be Joseph Pickles and Son in 1936. The Ballarat School of Mines began in 1870, and gradually developed to become an education institution. F. E Ferguson was the registrar at the time. The letter concerns the acquirement of the fabric Actil "Fasco" No. 49, which was out of stock and instead a sample of No. 57 was sent. This was not suitable for intended purpose. Two letters between Robert Reid & Co. Limited and Ballarat School of Mines. Both have pen annotations and signatures. The Robert Reid & Co. letter enclosed a piece of fabric, Actil "Fasco" No. 57Secretary marks include "Not suitable" Signatures from Registrar F. E Ferguson at Ballarat School of Mines and J.
