German peaked hat worn by members of Luftwaffe Flight crews WW2 Circa 1939-45. Is in an NCO pattern and noted as yellow Waffenfabre.Dark blue peaked hat. Top part is dark blue felt with orange edging and emblem of silver eagle carrying a Swaztika. Middle band black cotton material with emblem of silver laurel wreath surrounding a small silver button with blue inner circle and red dot and wings coming out from each side. This type of bayonet was reputed to have used by British troops during the ill fated Zulu War.Long lived extensively used during its llfe.Bayonet Sword 1860 Martini Henry Rifle. The pattern 1853/ 72 was called a brushed model as they were modified from 20mm diameter to 18.1 mm diameter by a process then called brushed to fit the new martini henry rifle. Proudly worn by soldiers of the 1st and 2nd Australian Imperial Force in both World Wars, the 'Rising Sun' badge has become an integral part of the digger tradition. The distinctive shape of the badge, worn on the upturned side of a slouch hat, is commonly identified with the spirit of Anzac. There are seven patterns of the Rising Sun. The Rising Sun has evolved over time and today Australian Army soldiers wear the seventh pattern Rising Sun.The Rising Sun badge, also known as the General Service Badge or the Australian Army Badge, is the official insignia of the Australian Army and is mostly worn on the brim of a slouch hat or, less frequently, on the front of a peaked cap for Army personnel filling certain ceremonial appointments.Timber look laminate box with gold colour metal "rising sun" badge on front. The geometric pattern mimic Ukrainian embroidery design,using straw marquetry technique (which is similar to that of wood marquetry). The wheat straw was soaked in different pigments to achieve the required shades,dried,split and ironed flat. Then cut into various sizes and shapes to create this pattern. The pieces where then glued onto a backing board.The backing board was then glued on the back of the photo album. Book, Dow and Lester, The Ghosts of My Friends, 1920s
This item came from the estate of Dorothy and Agnes Ardlie of Warrnambool. It is a type of autograph book where the signatures are used to form inkblots, thus creating patterns which in this case are called the ‘ghosts’ of those signing. The making and interpreting of ink blots became popular in the late 19th century and this autograph book created by Cecil Henland is a quirky example of this craze. The autograph book belonged to Agnes Ardlie and was apparently given to her on her 13th birthday (1928). Dorothy Ardlie (1910-1993) and Agnes Ardlie (1915-1993) were the daughters of Arthur and Ethel Ardlie of Warrnambool, the granddaughters of the prominent Warrnambool lawyer, William Ardlie and his wife Mary and the great granddaughters of John and Mary Ardlie, pioneer settlers in Warrnambool. This book is of great interest as a good example of an early 20th century style of autograph book using the signatures to form ink blots. It also has local provenance as the signatures/blots are mostly those of an Ardlie family and other early to mid 20th century Warrnambool personalities.This is a book of 50 pages. The cover is dark red with the inkblot or ‘ghost of a celebrated general’ in black and white in the middle of the front cover. This inkblot is reprinted on the second page. The front cover and spine have gold printing. The book originally had 48 blank pages with a fold down the middle and printed space at the top and bottom for a date and a name. This book has 19 blank pages and the others are filled with ink blots formed by writing a signature along the fold and then folding over the sheet without blotting to get patterns called in this book, ‘ghosts’. The book has a signature and an inscription handwritten in black ink, a page of instructions, and a poem called ‘Ghosts’. The bold floral pattern is typical of the styles favoured in the 1960s and 70s.This dress is of minor interest as an example of ladies’ clothing from the 20th century and will be useful for display.This is a floor length woman’s dress.
