"Genista" was acquired in 1921 by PI & Westernport Shipping, Co. It was the first command by Captain Jimmy Clarke in that Company 1923. His appointment was made by radio in possibly the first such appointment by radio. It was registered under 300 tons. There is a Mary Bell on the school register who enrolled at Ballarat College (Girls School) in 1888. Birthday 2 March 1875 aged 13 years and 10 months. Father Alex bell. It is possible the book was donated to the Weatherly Library by this former old collegian. The Weatherly Library was opened in 1936 and its collection significantly established by donation or bequest of old collegians and community members or associates. This gold-plated prefect's badge is an excellent example of its era. It is interesting that the school does not list a prefect in 1971 with the name 'Pitcher'. There is no student with the surname Pitcher registered as attending the school in 1971. The school also holds a 1972 Prefect's badge (VC oooo14) for this student.
