Folder, Robert Lowman, 1882
Robert Lowman, Christmas Hills, 1882 Lowman built his Lowman's Hotel or Lowman's Folly on Osborne Road - Yarra Glen Road, Christmas Hills in the 1870s when the main road from Christmas Hills to Yarra Glen (then "Yarra Flats") used to follow the present Eltham -Yarra Glen Road to Osborne Road, then followed that to Mt Wise Road and down the escarpment. Years later a new road was opened leaving Lowmna's Hotel high and dry to gain renown as "Lowman's Folly". It closed in the early 1890s. Folder, Elizabeth Jane Edwards
Elizabeth Jane Edwards was born in Geelong in 1851 to Eliza, nee Murphy and Frederick Edwards. It is said that she was one of the first children registered in Melbourne. She married George Gray in 1864. They lived at Cleir Hills, Queenstown where George was a pioneer fruitgrower in the area. They had six daughters and two sons. Consists of five sheets with notes about the proposed horse tram system for Melbourne, prepared by Jack Cranston. Includes extract and notes on the parliamentary enquiry and the possibility of a cable tram system. The coloured sheet is from another copy held at the former VicTrack Malvern Museum. Images from the latter set of documents - Sept 2024. 35 Sheets of details on the plans and sections of proposed horse tram lines throughout Melbourne. Produced as part of the work undertaken by Jack Cranston for the Department of Transport / Heritage Victoria - see Reg Item 584. On rear cover ink and on page 2 of the folder is a note on the source of the document. Folder, Sir William Irvine
Sir William Irvine, (1858-1943) Eltham, Politician and Judge. "William Irvine was born at Dromalene, Newry, Down, Ireland and after the death of his father emigrated to Melbourne with his mother in 1879. Here be completed his legal studies and spent some years teaching and in legal practice before entering the Victorian Parliament in 1894. He rose to the position of Leader of the Opposition and in 1902 became Premier. He resigned in 1904 for health reasons but in 1906 entered Federal politics as the member for Flinders. He was knighted in 1913 and in 1918 resigned to take up the position of Chief Justice of Victoria. From 1919 he administered the state as lieutenant-governor several times and was acting governor for nearly three years from 1931. He died in 1943 and following a State funeral was buried at Eltham cemetery. A portrait by Buckmaster won the Archibald Prize in 1933" - Newsletter 163 Folder of information.sir william irvine -

Crown Portion 3 of Eltham, Parish of Nillumbik, County of Evelyn, Lots 26, 26A and 26B were part of the Greensborough Railway Station Estate. The land detailed is bounded by present-day Rattray Road, Reichelt Avenue, Wooded Way and Ryrie Court, Montmorency. Originally purchased in September 1913 by George William Miller, signwriter of Greensborough and Harry Frederick Miller, the land was sold to Mrs Margaret Barr Honeyman, 24 June 1918 on mortgage for £400, deposit paid £150. In February 1920, Mr Honeyman called for the title and paid off the loan early, settlement occuring 11 October 1920. Contents: 1. Handwritten payment plan (Sep 1913 to Mar 1923) for Lots 26, 26A and 26B being parts of Crown Portion 3, Parish of Nillumbik, County of Evelyn on the plan of subdivision making up the Greensborough Railway Station Estate situated on Rattray Road; purchased for £179.2.0 with a deposit of £18.0.0. 2. Receipt: From Messrs G.W. and H.F. Miller for £11.15.8 being instalment and interest, 9 Sep 1913 3. Invoice: To Messrs G.W. and H.F. Miller for £11.12.0 being instalment and interest due 15 Sep 1914 4. History of the Love family, early selectors of Tatura and original residents of Moyola. Renamed to Moyola Park c.1950 as Margaret Love, the last surviving daughter of the family, wanted to keep the name Moyola for her home in Tatura. Upon her death she left her home, land and £5700 for the development of homes for the elderly, poor, and in need members of the community, resulting in the current Moyola Cottages and Moyola Lodge aged care facility.
