This photo by Keith Kings, a railway photograph of QGR locomotive 748 crossing the complex arrangements of tracks at Woolloongabba - three tram tracks, one trolley bus route. The photographer noted that trains could block all tram lines at times. Trains were always proceeded by a man carrying a red flag and ringing a bell. The photo shows three Bendigo California Combination single truck cars at Charing Cross, looking southwest with the Alexandria Fountain in the centre. Trams 5 and 14 are in the view along with another behind them. The Bendigo electric tram system commenced operations in 1903 and given the appearance of the roadways and tram tracks, the photo was taken soon after opening. In the view are the View Point Hotel, signs for Moran Cato, Coperative Distribution, W J Jackson Tailor, The Age and several horse-drawn cabs. Rose Series postcard No. P 3636, titled "Melbourne from St Kilda Road", looking north from just south of Alexandra Avenue. Note how the tram tracks are widened to pass around the center of the road light standard which appears to be marked as a tram stop. In front of the photo, a tram crossover can be seen. Newspaper clipping from The Courier, 31 July 2001, Eureka Column, page 3, written by David Ellery about a swan who paused in the middle of the tram track and held up the Museum tram service. The swan would not move, until coaxed by a cream biscuit from a passing school boy. Reported by a conductor (thought to be Austin Brehaut) to the columnist. Stone's at Stones Corner was a select ladies dress shop for many years. Mrs Bon Strange and her husband Bert were well known Ballarat residents. Set of 7 images of the last built (1925) cable tram car house or depot in Howard St North Melbourne. This building replaced the Flemington Road car house when the cable tram track in Flemington Road was electrified during July 1925. The building is on the Heritage Register - see reference. When closed in 1935, it was subsequently sold to a furniture company. In 2017 it was occupied by City Prestige Automobiles.
