It was managed by the City of Ballarat with funding assistance form the State and Federal governments. The Tawonga & District Hospital was situated in Tawonga at the corner of Ryders Lane and the Kiewa Valley Highway. The construction was initiated by the Hospital & Charities Commission with considerable assistance from the SECV. It was officially opened in 1949. It was relocated to Mt Beauty in 1961. Carols by Candlelight required the assistance of the general public around Melbourne to sell programs and other items, assist ticket sales and other activities. Various avenues were used to call for this assistance, including the circulation of Help Wanted signs at newsagent kiosks at metropolitan railway stations. The two philanthropic Foundations are a treasure for the community as they can step in and fill the gap where other funding sources cannot. In our case they were the major donors and we could not have contemplated this project without their assistance. The original Tawonga District Hospital was situated at the corner of Ryders Lane and Kiewa Valley Highway. The building was transported from Bonegilla where it was originally part of the Bonegilla Military Hospital. It was officially opened on September 24, 1949.
