Frances Charlotte Le Couteur (born c1893) taught at both Chatham and Canterbury Primary Schools and at the Salvation Army in Guildford Road. She lived in Guildford Road for part of her life and taught music. She was on the staff of Chatham Primary when it opened in August 1927. She taught at Canterbury Primary for 20 years. On the 21st of July 2018, Clare McCracken boarded the ANL Wahroonga container ship to travel to China mirroring her great-great-grandmother's journey from Australia to Asia in 1874. These photographs are part of the Lawless Collection. The Lawless family lived in Orbost from 1907 - c 1920. John Francis Lawless had a saddlery shop. He died at an early age - 47 years - June 7 1912, leaving his wife, Elizabeth and seven children. The eldest son, Victor Rowland lawless volunteered for serv ice in WW1 but did not leave Australia because of illness. The second son, Edward Vincent Lawless (b 1895 d 1917) worked for McCoy & Co. in Orbost, coachbuilding, undertakers, general blacksmiths and farriers, prior to enlisting in WW!. He was trained as a signaller and was sent to France where he was killed in action on 9.10.1917. Elizabeth Lawless worked as a ladies' nurse (midwife) in Orbost prior to leaving the district in 1920. Linen tablecloth created by Charlotte Elizabeth Moullin, grandmother of the donor. Last used by family for the christening donor's son Cameron, 50 years ago (From 2019). The tablecloth was passed down through the family as a family heirloom. William Kleinert (Friedrich John Wilhem Kleinert) made wine from the grapes he grew. The house was built in 1905 and was the home of William and Emily Kleinert from 1905. William was a coach-builder, wheelwright and blacksmith. He moved from Prahran to Surrey Hills. His son Ernest worked with him as a coach painter and also worked as a painter undertaking intricate hand painting on early cars. Their other son Martin played for the Surrey Hills Football Club. In return for the support given to the club by Mrs Emily Kleinert, it built a rotunda in South Surrey Park as a memorial to her. Alan Holt research: Lot 6 was sold to Martin Klienert by Karl Richter in 1860 together with a portion of another adjacent lot. From 1860-1885 Martin worked it as a market garden leasing some land for grazing when it was not required for gardening. He died in 1898. In a formal document, William declared he was the son of Martin "who purchased land in 1860, died in 1898 and the land has been continually occupied by father and family since. It has been cultivated as a market garden; when not being used for gardening it was let for cultivation and grazing." William died in 1939 and the property passed to his sons Martin and Ernest. The Kleinert land extended from Union Road to Essex Road. They ran horses, ducks and fowls and Emily Kleinert grew flowers. The Kleinert property later became the South Surrey Park. The family sold the land to the Camberwell Council in the 1950s. Ernest and Ida Kleinert lived on the corner of Scotsdale and Warrigal Roads. The donor of the photo Nada Harris, nee Kleinert, was Ernest and Ida's daughter. This book (a reprint of a book first published in 1986) was written by Jean MacKenzie and details the life of her grandmother, Jessie MacGillivray. Much of the information on Jessie MacGillivray comes directly from the diaries she kept. The book is also a great social history of 19th century and early 20th century Peterborough and district. This book is of considerable interest as it contains historical information on one family in particular and a region (Peterborough and district). Many of the people and events mentioned had a direct bearing on Warrnambool’s history (eg. James McKain Meek, local shipwrecks). This is a soft cover book of 144 pages plus 16 pages of black and white photographs and other images. The water dog stories are at spots along river "don't go down thereon the bend (Namour Researve River) the water dog witll get you" Nan used to tell us. It is believed that the water dog makes whirlpools and will drown you. He makes a druming sound, which can be heard along the Namoir, Barwon, Darling, Gwydir, Mihi and the Narran River; and the Duck is part of the creation story, with the twin platypus. It tells how the water dog kidnapped her and kept her in a cave on the river bank, she escaped back to her people. In 1896 Albert Richardsonand his bride, Lettice, came to the mill at Tabbara. Their daughter, Mrs Mary Barclay, was born at Marlo in 1897. Her Scottish great-great grandmother who was born about 1800, kept silk worms. There are two windows in the church dedicated to Clara and her husband George Edgar Godlip Yung. Hat belonged to Catherine (Kitty) Ann Windsor (born 23 Nov 1919 died 17 Nov 2002) in the 1930s. She was the grandmother of Rachael Cottle (Whitehorse Historical Society Secretary Aug 2011-2016). She was gate keeper at the Tunstall (Nunawading) railway gates crossing at Springvale Road during 1934 - 1952.A house was supplied for the keeper. The Fashion & Design collection of the Kew Historical Society includes examples of women’s, men’s, children’s and infants’ clothing from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries. Items in the collection were largely produced for, or purchased by women in Melbourne, and includes examples of outerwear, protective wear, nightwear, underwear and costume accessories. This wedding dress was worn by the grandmother of Val Warren.Raw silk wedding dress. The full length dress has lace on the bodice and long sleeves. Other decorative elements include finely pleated silk panels on the bodice, an insert on the skirt and on the cuffs of the sleeves The dress features extensive use of both utilitarian and decorative buttons that are covered in the same silk fabric as the dress. The final photograph shows two early repairs to the dress. The donors of this fur collar believe the collar to be between 80-90 years old. It was worn by the donor’s grandmother and mother as an accessory to Warrnambool and district balls and dances. It may have also been worn for warmth! The donors believe the fur would have been purchased in either Melbourne or Toorak. This fur could have been worn by either men or women. This handmade pinafore was worn by the donor, Ellen Brown, at her christening in 1905. It was made by Ellen's grandmother, Mrs Beeching, for the first daughter born in the Fagg family. The pinafore was a treasured family heirloom, and was not worn again. It is a rare example of a modest, homemade christening costume. Most costumes were gowns, but this humble pinafore still shows loving attention to detail.The connection between milestone moments and the wearing of a particular garment carries great significance. The christening gown represents the rites of passage: great importance is placed on the clothing, as well as the ceremony.This is a white cotton infant's christening pinafore, round neck with a flounce, sleeveless with a sash attached at the front and tied at the back.
