Financial record - Lydia Chancellor collection: Bendigo Gas Company and The Colonial Gas Association Limited
1. The Bendigo Gas Company formed in 1859, established the Bendigo Gas Works and became an incorporated company in 1860. It produced coal gas for the community until it was liquidated and delisted as a company in 1959. 2. The Colonial Gas Association was incorporated in 1888, selling shares for 5pounds and 10 pounds. It was originally formed in London with the aim of raising investment capital for the construction and maintenance of gas works across the cities and towns of Australia and New Zealand. Its original name was the Australasian Gas Association and this changed to the Colonial Gas Association in 1893.The Bendigo Gas Company notice of annual general meeting of shareholders for the years 1947 to 1952. The meeting to be held at the company registered office at 49 Pall Mall, Bendigo. Directors: Rex F. Hyett (Chairman), J.S. Wilson, H.N. Butt, S. Proud, F. Levy. Manager and secretary W. Pain. Group of labels which are stuck together. The largest is Lemonated frutose Saline manufactured by H. M. Leggo., Bendigo & Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It is printed in yellow, dark green and light green. Label has directions how to make a glass of the Saline, the contents Approx. 12 ozs. Established 1881. Another label is Norman J. Ephemera - Wedding invitation
Gertrude Perry was born in California Gully in 1917. Her singing skills were recognized at an early age. She later sang with local choirs and sang on radio. She was involved with the Bendigo Operatic Society for many years. Gertrude began her working life in sales. After studying book keeping she worked at the Bendigo Ordnance Factory during WW2 and then worked for local solicitors and accountants. Gertrude was involved with many community and sporting organizations.Wedding invitation from Mrs. M. Macdougall to Miss Gertrude Perry for the wedding of her daughter Jean Catherine to John David A. Photograph - Golden Square State School Senior Choir 1927
BENDIGO. Golden Square State school choir won three of the principal shields at the recent Bendigo musical and elocutionary competitions. The choir's victories were celebrated by a social at which the prizes were presented. In presenting the trophies, Mr. R. S. V. Cocking, president of the competitions committee, referred to the popularity of the children's choir contests, which the musical adjudicator, .Mr, James, had characterised as the most important sections on the programme. Of the whole of the competitions held throughout Australia none had a school section to equal that at Bendigo. The head master of the school, Mr. A. M. Parratt,. who conducted the choirs, was presented with a grandfather's clock and photographs of the choirs, by the residents of Golden Square. The Age 23 June 1927Black and white photo of thirty children - twenty five girls and five boys, and one adult male. The girls appear to be all dressed in white dresses and long white socks, and the boys and adult are dressed in suits with white shirts and ties.
