The Kew Light Opera Company was formed in 1952. Its first production, held in the Kew Recreation Hall was Leslie Stuart's Florodora. In 1957, the Company was subsumed in the "Q" Theatre Guild.Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1960s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The collection includes valuable data about performances, performers, directors etc., during this period. Theatre programme for a production of Florodora in the Kew Recreation Hall by the Kew Light Opera Company. The 12-page programme includes profiles, a cast list and advertisements. This laminated copy of an advertisement promotes an Easter Monday picnic to be held at G. Eason's Farm in aid of the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. The original poster is undated. The farm was located at what was then known as Scot's March, later called Scotsburn, located a few kilometres southeast of Buninyong. The event promised a wide array of food, tea, coffee, games, sports and ended up with a Grand Ball. Laminated copy of an undated advertisement for a Grand Easter Picnic to be held at Eason's Farm, Scot's March, near Buninyong. Proceeds were to go to the Ballarat Orphan Asylum. Scot's Marsh is an earlier name for Scotsburn. Antwerp is near Dimboola, Victoria. The schoo, originally named Antwerp South State School, opened c. 1891.The building was condemned by the Shire of Dimboola in 1909 on health grounds due to overcrowding, and rebuilt. It continued operating until it was closed at the end of 1981 due to falling enrolments, and the buildings were removed from the site. One of the toll bags used to collect tolls on the Great Ocean Road. First "Toll Gate" at Sunnymeade Estate as the road went through land owned by Mr C J Lane. Toll gates followed at "Stradbroke Point",later changed to "Stradbroke Knoll" named after the Govenor of Victoria, Lord Stradbroke, Grassy Creek and "The Springs". Mr W D McKay first toll keeper, then Mr & Mrs Wright. Toll commenced circa 1925 and ended 2nd October 1936. Cars were charged at 2/6 for car and driver and 1/- for each passenger. Motor cycles 2/-.
