In the top left hand corner of the photograph you can see the LLAMBERIS House built by Joseph Gundry. It was thought that later the property was sold and Roderick Impey Murchison was the buyer,he later offered it for sale in 1885 and later that year A N Hassall invited tenders for lots of Liamberis.C j Cook was the listed owner in 1888 ( land of the Magpie)

Acquired by WBM and Elizabeth Smith believed early 20th century. Anecdotally later generation family advised the object has always been in the house. Mitcham residents and the Nunawading and District Historical Society have joined the growing list of objectors to a proposed 16 unit development at the corner of Mitcham Road and Meerut Street on the site of one of the few remaining historical homes in the area. The house was built in 1934 by Stanley and Helen Walker. Mr Walker's family was owner and operator of the Australian Tessellated Tile Company, an important industry for Mitcham and Victoria. The verandah posts on the corner have rotted away and let the verandah down a foot. The roof on the kitchen is in a bad way. You will notice the chimney has a lean of about a foot. Eliza McGlone was the wife of John McGlone and they were early settlers in Mitcham. They ran one of the earliest hotels in Mitcham: 'The Harvest Home' from 1873. The hotel was conducted in the front room of their house in Whitehorse Road, Mitcham, on the corner of what is now McGlone Street. The hotel closed in 1889. John McGlone died on 3 September 1892 aged 65. Eliza McGlone continued to live in Mitcham until her death on 2 January 1921, aged 85. She had been Mitcham's first official Postmistress and, following several others who had held that position, she returned to that role for a period up to 1914 when Bertha Markham was appointed. The McGlones owned substantial rental properties and had donated one acre in central Mitcham for the Catholic Church.
