Uniform - Lighthorse horse shoe carry
The light horse shoe carry pouch is not from World War 1, but is a later manufacture. British Universal Pattern(UP) 1902 as worn by horses in the Australian light horse, artillery, and horse drawn transport between circa 1902 and 1942. All light horsemen carried a horseshoe carrier (5 styles were used) containing spare nails and two horseshoes as standard issue, so that horses could be re-shod immediately if they accidentally cast a shoe.L.I.L & Sons 1941 -

The 8th Light Horse (Indi) Citizen Military Forces, superseded 16th (Indi) Light Horse in 1920. It had its headquarters at Benalla with sub-units throughout the Upper Murray and Northeast Victoria. In December 1941, the regiment converted from horse to mechanised, initially as 8th Reconnaissance Battalion then in July 1942 it became 8th Cavalry Regiment and served in Northern Territory. Bob (Herman) Hymans (a former member of the Royal Netherlands Navy) was born in Bloemendaal, Holland on 30th September 1922. During World War II he fought against the Japanese in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) and was imprisoned in Changi and on the Burma Railway. After gaining qualifications as a Ski Instructor, Bob arrived in Falls Creek in July 1950. Working as an Instructor and Supervisor at Bogong Lodge, Bob decided his future was in accommodation. He was successful in negotiating an indenture for land from the State Electricity Commission (SEC). It took Bob two years to build his Grand Coeur Chalet but, tragically, it was burned down in August 1961. Bob also built the first Chairlift in Australia. This was a single chairlift and the structure was built from wooden electricity poles. He was constantly full of new ideas and proposals for the village. Bob Hymans die on 7th July 2007. This Collection of documents and letters tells the story of Bob's endeavours to develop Falls Creek into the ski village it is today.This item is significant because it documents actions taken by the Falls Creek Tourist Area Management Committee in their role overseeing the Tourist Area.A circular from the Management Committee restating information about the garbage service to be provided by "Yellow Horse Snow Services Pty. Various partiesReference, Research, InformationSecondary Values (KHS Imposed Order)Correspondence and published articles relating to the horse trough and hitching post outside the gates of the Boroondara General Cemetery. The earliest item of correspondence is a typed and signed letter from the historian Dorothy Rogers to Mrs West, Secretary of the Kew Historical Society, dated 13 Feb 1966. It relates to transport, including horse trams that travelled through Kew. Another letter from B F Bade in 1986 identifies the hitching post as having been once located outside the old Kew Town Hall in Walpole Street, and dating from 1907. The latter was acquired in 1987 and installed in 1988 during the Bicentennial.
