Painting - Oil on canvas, Noel Counihan, Tête, 1969
Born in Melbourne in 1913, Noel Counihan was a social realist painter, printmaker and cartoonist, and a passionate social campaigner. The namesake of Merri-bek City Council’s Counihan Gallery, his experiences of unemployment and poverty during the 1930s, and his lifelong involvement in protest movements, inspired his powerful and prolific images of the working class. The Yambuk slide was once just a hill of exposed sand where children and adults enjoyed the rush of sliding down the hill. It was upgraded by adding a proper slide sometime in the 1990’s. At one stage it was to be removed because of injuries but due to protests by the community it has been again upgraded and is still a source of great joy today.Coloured photograph of the yambuk slide 1995slide, yambuk, sand dune, 1995, children, palyground -

VFF is seeking an appropriate framework to ensure farmers do not bear the cost of infrastructure on their farms. Overhead powerlines are proposed through the rich volcanic soils around Ballarat. This land supports 1200 jobs in processing in Ballarat. The towers would impact on the ability to irrigate crops, to use tractors around them, on biosecurity and on ability to use emergency equipment near them. VFF wants assurances that the managing entry to farm policy position will be adhered to and that a statewide strategic plan for renewable energy is prepared. https://www.vff.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/PS210901LG-Managing-Entry-to-Farms-adopted.pdf https://www.vff.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/VFF-Renewable-Energy-and-Energy-Efficiency-Policy-Statement-Meeting-172-June-2021.pdfadvocacy, renewable energy, farmers, protest, rally, managing entry to farm, victorian farmers federation, ballarat -

The Victorian Kennett government, which had already closed Nott Street State School in 1992, declared that due to falling attendance, Graham Street Primary (the last in Port Melbourne) would also have to close. This was at a time which saw housing for thousands of new residents under way or planned in Port. Slide - DIGGERS & MINING. THE GOLD LICENCE, c1851
Diggers & Mining. The gold licence. The Government Camp. Between 1851 and 1854, there was continual unrest on nearly all of the Victorian diggings, due chiefly to the licence system and the repressive methods of its enforcement (though there were other causes - see Unit 8). The diggers held protest meetings; they formed diggers' associations; they sent petitions to the government. At times, serious rioting threatened - as at Bendigo in 1853. But the Legislative Council continued the system; Markings: 37 994.LIF. 4. Used as a teaching aid.hanimounteducation, tertiary, goldfields
