Ticket and notice about the Dedication of the Forecourt by The Queen, possibly kept as souvenirs by a Legatee. The Forecourt is cross shaped. The Cenotaph is 65 feet high and rises as a focal point to the Forecourt, it is balanced on the other side by three 70 foot high flagstaffs. The sculpture at the top of the Centoph is "carved in Footscray basalt. It represents six men in battle dress of the Navy, Army and Air Services, carrying a bier on which lies the figure of a dead comrade draped with the national flag. Its simple symbolism harmonises with the great shrine itself and sums up with dramatic power the whole message of the monument - the debt of the living to the dead, the eternal bond between the fallen and those who enjoy the fruits of their sacrifice." Also from the souvenir booklet: "In front of the Cenotaph, surrounded by a protective railing, the Eternal Flame which burns continually in its great bronze bowl. The eternal flame is an ancient symbol signifying at times the continuing spirit of a city, at others the constancy of man to an ideal, and again as the symbol of continuing faith." This so-called Hickford medal was a medal struck in 1897 by the Town of Warrnambool (bearing Walter Hickford’s name as the Mayor at the time) to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Victoria. Walter John Hickford was Mayor of Warrnambool 1895-6-7 and President of the Committee that organized the Warrnambool Industrial and Art Exhibition of 1896-7. A skilled decorative artist, Hickford carried out art work in many private houses, business and churches in Warrnambool. His shop in Liebig Street supplied paint materials for households, businesses and artists. Hickford Parade is named after him. The 60th anniversary of Queen Victoria’s reign was celebrated widely throughout Australia and the British Empire. This medal is one of several owned by the Warrnambool and District Historical Society. It is of some importance as it shows the extent to which civic authorities and individuals in places like Warrnambool were concerned with all things British and the influence of the British monarchy in Australian affairs in the late 19th century. It also shows the importance attached at the time to the position of Mayor, with his name being inscribed on the medal.This is a medal, possibly bronze, with the logo of the Town of Warrnambool on one side and two images of Queen Victoria on the other. Hall, commanding offlfncer. But Art Gallery members at their meeting yesterday said "No." Lending it or giving it away would "create a dan- gerous precedent for the Gallery," they decided. . The coronation of King Georg VI and Queen Elizabeth took place on 12 May 1937 at Westminster Abbey, London. This followed the abdication of Edward VIII. This cup is retained as an example of the high quality souvenirs of the 1937 coronation of King George VI sold to those in British Empire countries. It will be useful for display. This is a white china cup with a gilt edge around the top rim and on the handle. This picture was taken in Brisbane where the interstate carnival was held in 1930..Players such as Edith Hull, Ethel McCarthy featured throughout the 1930s and 1940s which featured significant tours from NZ (by NZ in 1936 and then to NZ in 1948). These coins are examples of Australian decimal currency coins in 1970 and 1971. Decimal currency was introduced into Australia in 1966 with 50 cents, 20 cents, 10 cents, five cents, two cents and one cent coins issued at that time. The images of Australian animals and birds on one side of the coins were designed by Stuart Devlin. The one and two cent coins were discontinued in the 1980s and $1 and $2 coins were introduced in 1991.These coins are retained as examples of Australian decimal currency coins in the 1970s. This coin was found in the ground at Glenormiston, South West Victoria, in 1940. The medal was commissioned by Mayor W. J. Hickford and issued by the Town of Warrnambool in 1897 to commemorate the 60th jubilee of the reign of H.M. Queen Victoria. The medal is significant for recognising the 60th year of reign of Queen Victoria, after whom our State of Victoria was named. It also has significance in showing the early design of the City of Warrnambool's Coat of Arms, which includes the British Coat of Arms. Commemorative medal, HM Queen Victoria's Jubilee, issued by the Town of Warrnambool in 1897. A round, gilt metal disc with plain edges and a drilled hole in the top. The Obverse shows the Queen's profile, young and old, The Reverse has Warrnambool Town's coat of arms including a sailing ship, a sheave of wheat and a rising sun, with a motto below them. A tankard mug that was produced for Legacy to commemorate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953. It is unknown how many of these mugs were made. It is unlikely they were for fundraising. Perhaps just for Legatees to keep. Also found reference to it in a newspaper article published 7 December 1953. The article mentions: Two hundred members and visitors who attended the 30th annual dinner of the Legacy Club in Union House on Saturday night received a pleasant surprise. Each person at the dinner was given a Coronation pint tankard with a figure of the Queen's head on it. The 'surprise' came from a Legatee - Mr H Greenway - a Blackburn pottery manufacturer. The first such carnival is believed to have been held in Napier, New Zealand, in 1913. This tile was produced in 1938 to honour the 40th anniversary of Queen wilhelmina's succession to the Dutch throne.Significant because of the Dutch people's connection to their Royal House.A small square commemorative tile in celebration of the 40th anniversary of the reign of Queen Wilhelmina. Basically blue, it also features an orange tree with fruit, the Amsterdam city coat of arms and an inscription. On the front: "Regeerings Jubileum Koningin Wilhelmina 1898-1938". (Queen Wihelmina Jubilee 1898-1938). On the back: "Koninklyk Goedewaagen Gouda" and "NRvGelder&Co Amsterdam". A hole to enable hanging has been pierced in one corner .

This photograph is part of the Caulfield Historical Album 1972. This album was created in approximately 1972 as part of a project by the Caulfield Historical Society to assist in identifying buildings worthy of preservation. The album is related to a Survey the Caulfield Historical Society developed in collaboration with the National Trust of Australia (Victoria) and Caulfield City Council to identify historic buildings within the City of Caulfield that warranted the protection of a National Trust Classification. Principal photographer thought to be Trevor Hart, member of Caulfield Historical Society. Most photographs were taken between 1966-1972 with a small number of photographs being older and from unknown sources. All photographs are black and white except where stated, with 386 photographs over 198 pages. This book was awarded to Florence Groves for first prize in arithmetic in 1885. Florence enrolled at Clarendon Ladies' College with her sister Blanche on 30/07/1884 at the age of 14. Father's Christian name listed in the original register as Daniel Barton residing at 18 Mc Carthur street, Ballarat. It also lists his employment as Commercial traveller.Presbyterian educators placed great value on a classical education matched with diligence in study. Book prizes were highly regarded and academic success admired. In the school’s early years prizes were ordered direct from London and had the school crest embossed in gold on the front or back cover. Many of the prizes given in early years were returned to the school to equip the Weatherly Library when it opened in 1936.Bound in brown and green cloth with gilt lettering and floral decorations on front cover and spine.
