The Land Boom of the 1880s accelerated the rate of subdivisions in Kew. This subdivision, 'Kew! Kew!' was also impacted by, or resulted from, the decision by the Victorian Government to construct the Outer Circle railway. Construction of the railway began in 1888 and was completed in 1891. Plan of an 1888 subdivision bounded by Bulleen Road (now High Street), Gladstone Street (now Campbell Street?), Park Street (now Adeney Avenue), and Belmore Road (now Harp Road). The 16 lots in the proposed subdivision are bisected by the route of the Outer Circle railway, and next to the proposed Normanby Station (later renamed East Kew). On the plan, local landmarks such as the tram terminus, the Harp of Erin hotel, and the station are located. The street where the lots are numbered , was called Welsh Street on the plan as this was the name of the vendor. Surrounding land owners are also named: G. During a visit to England, Society members Russell Yeoman (Secretary and founding member) and his wife Marion reached out to the Eltham Society in Kent, England, just out of London seeking to establish a friendly relationship between two historical societies which share a common interest in their respective home towns of Eltham. They were invited to meet various members at the home of one of their members on 3 July 1996 where various items of relevance to Eltham, Victoria and Eltham, Kent were exchanged. In addition, the Yeomans were also invited to attend an Eltham Society meeting the following evening. Subsequent to the Yeoman's visit, Eltham Society members Margaret Taylor and Clifford Crate visited Eltham, Victoria during Christmas 1997 and were hosted by various EDHS members with further exchanges of items of interest. This trophy was donated by Mrs Lil Wood in 1991 to recognise the winners of the Junior members of the G.A.C.C.The junior development of the cycling club is important to the club and this trophy serves to recognise endeavours in this field.This trophy is in the shape of a wooden column set on two small wooden bases. The second wooden base has a plaque attached to it with the name of the donor and the title of the trophy. The column of the trophy has small rectangular plaques with the name of each winner inscribed on them dated from 1991-1999. Ponsonby May Carew Smyth was born at Cork, Ireland, Carew-Smyth studied at the Belfast School of Art and Design. Carew Smyth taught at the national Art Training School, London and Rugby School. He arrived in Australia in January 1891, and was appointed Principal of the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery School (Ballarat West Technical Art School) from 1891 to 1899. In 1907 Carew Smyth was Chief Inspector of Art for the Victorian Education department. He designed commemorative wall plaques for state schools after World War One. In 1936 Carew Smyth was Acting Director of the National Gallery of Victoria.Drawing on card of a principal elevation for the design of a town hall. The sundial was demolished, along with the Main Nurses' Home in 1996. The dial and commemorative plaque were salvaged by the Archive.Of significance to the AHNL as the sundial, originally placed in the garden in front of the Main Nurses' Home was to remind the nurses of the future of the sacrifices of nurses during war.
