The 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles was raised as a regiment of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps on 1 May 1948 with Headquarters in Melbourne and squadrons in Sale, Benalla/Wangaratta and Albury. In 1955 Regimental Headquarters moved to Wangaratta and a second squadron was located at Albury. The Sale squadron transferred to 4th/19th Prince of Wales’s Light Horse. It was the service station for General Motors products as well as the official R.A.C.V. service station. Robert Pullar Cameron was a Shire Councillor for many years. He married Penuel Hossack and had a family of James, Flora, Penuel and Alex.This item is an example of the book-keeping of an Orbost business in the early 20th century. From relevant information - "The poster was sent to my Grandmother's father (John Garriock) from Canada. It was a giveaway in a Canadian farming magazine of the time. My Grandmother (Barbara Ross) and Grandfather (Robert Heddle Ross) kept the poster and it eventually came to me. Peter Ruston came to Australia in 1850. He worked as a carter, carting flour from the mill on the Plenty River near Janefield to the Greensborough area. He was one of the first bakers in the area. He married Martha Roberts in 1858.
