Those who caught rats signed their names and many signatures appear to be those of children. Prices began at 3d a rat then reduced to 2d. A total of rats was recorded for each year. This machine was used to produce badges from adults & students own designs.The school was still known at this time as Graham Street Primary to distinguish it from Nott Street State School. Wooden table - 2 panels comprise top which has 4 holes punctured through boards. Majority of top has green lino which is peeling off. Dark stain - legs with one indented cut and legs graduate down from 6 to 4.5 cm width. Pine top - local timber base (blackwood). Repurposed and sturdy. -

Historical - well used - heavy metal. Inside strongly reinforced - lockable - fluted front handle. One smaller top section. Large bottom section .Ornamented front in central area. BRANX- comb springs in the locks. WAs commonly used as a bank safe & the railways used them in 1880's (from Chris Daniels) Originally green, handle is brass which would clean up. -

The Charlton Gentlemen's Club was established in 1900 by solicitor Ben Green. The original building had a narrow entrance off High St, between Egan & Spains Grocery Shop and the Central Café. After fire damaged the buildings in the 1970s, the club was extended to its present size. The vacant block next door was formerly Clark's butcher's shop. Part of a series of streetscapes taken for the Charlton Shire in 1987.Colour photograph of a single storey, glass fronted building with a white-framed front door. Lou's Cafe c. 1987. In the 1930s and early 40's it was Riches Cafe and Billiards Saloon. Sold to Halligan's, Duggans, Jerry Cowell until 1951 when Luths took over the building as a Car and Tractor agency. Next door was Bennett's Shoe Repair Shop which was later a Stock & Station Agency. Part of a streetscape series done for the Shire of Charlton c. 1987.Colour photograph of a single storey building. Signage on the windows reads Lou's CAFE and on the awning Lou's MILK Bar. Other signs on the windows read Fresh Fruit VEGS, meals, TAKE AWAY FOOD, FISH & CHIPS, HAMBURGERS. Signs above the awning advertise Pauls Streets and Peters ice creams.
