Diana Lodge was built and operated by Kevin Shoebridge as a family lodge in the 1950s and it has grown and evolved over 60 years to become Diana Alpine Lodge. After Mr. Shoebridge moved to Wodonga he leased Diana Lodge to Bob Scott and it also became the Post Office and Telephone Exchange. From early early 1967 until about 1975, Diana Lodge was owned and operated by John and Gwyn van Burck. It was then purchased by a group of 12 families operating as Swan Hill Alpine Holdings. North east Victoria was a major dairy producing region in the late nineteenth century. The first iteration of the Wodonga Butter Factory Ltd was established in 1892. Dairy was sent from farmers across the district for processing at the factory in Wodonga in the 1890s. Victorian creameries regularly exported frozen butter to London, stock was transported by rail for sale in Melbourne, and of course sold and consumed locally. E.W. Mann, of the prominent local Wodonga family, was a shareholder and was closely involved in the establishment of the Wodonga Butter Company. Many families living on farms also owned their own cow, and had equipment to process their own dairy products at home. This item has strong links to the history of Wodonga and north east Victoria. Minutes of the meeting held on 28th February 1975 which updated the information in Cat. No. 01693. Red Cross, which owned Stanhope and leased it to Melbourne Legacy, had been approached to consider Legacy's request to modify the residence. The numbers of children 16 years and under had averaged 35-40 with 26 currently in residence. The Committee now proposed that Harelands should be sold and Stanhope should become co-ed and modified to accommodate 40 children. A Legacy widow, Beryl Billing, with two school girls from Siena College and a lot of loose letters. Six school girls came to Legacy house to meet the weekly gathering of the stamp ladies. They had chosen Legacy as a cause they wanted to help and decided to collect stamps, they donated over 5,000 stamps. The widows clubs have sorted used stamps and sold to a stamp dealer for many years to the present day. It raises funds and provides a purpose for gathering together. Beryl Billings was the co-ordinator of the stamp sorting for many years.
