The ham and bacon business could kill 50 pigs per week. In addition to the wholesale premises, Cousen had extensive freezing works which supplied ice to the people of Bendigo. It is said the opera singer Amy Castles commissioned this house for her old singing teacher Edward Allen Bindley in 1902. In the centre of the house was a music room with a folding partition at one end. Behind the partition was a passage way with a mural which provided a backdrop for stage rehearsals. So it's not surprising there was something special about the woodwork of his house - the balustrade and frieze with its unique use of turned wood. Richard Bate built ‘Avondale’ at 176 Union Road in 1883 as a display home for subdividers of the Windsor Park Estate auction in that year. Richard built many homes in the locality – probably including No.101 Guildford Road, almost identical to his home. Richard also built the Box Hill Shire Hall in the 1880s (replaced in 1934 by the Box Hill Town Hall). Richard junior and family retained this house until the 1950s. Occupied in 2000 by Julie Ellis. In May 2000 Richard's grandson Jack Bate and great-grandsons Alan and Geoff (all of whom are builders) visited 7 Norris Street and lent this photo for copying. Demolished after subsequent sale. A black and white photograph of a Federation/Edwardian style timber house with detailed lacework around the veranda. There is a man standing on the right side of the photo. These forceps were owned and used by Dr Ronald Rome and Dr Kelvin Churches. Notes suggest that these may be a modified set of Denman-type forceps, as appearance of the outer part of the handles indicate they are an 'adaption' for independent use. 1330.1 - Approx 110m long section of a compressor armature end binding from the compressor of tram No. 40. The binding section consists of string which has been impregnated with insulating varnish. Located between the end of the armature and the commutator and retains the mica core. Small pieces of mica on the inside. Has a circular shape inherent from its use. - Not numbered. 1330.2 - approx. 25mm long section strip of red silicone tape with glass fibre reinforcement - 25mm wide with a plastic separation strip. Supplied by XLNT Enterprises - see fax on W.A.Doubleday files dated 5/1/2000. 1330.3 - as above, but two sections of this tape joined together as a sample. 1330.2 used to wrap the armature - two layers applied cut to be about 22mm wide instead of 25mm - repair done on 3/3/2000.
