Probably taken from footbridge just north of Raglan Street; open space is believed to be swamp drainage area between Raglan and Spring Street. (Location usually attributed to Farrell Street - i.e. taken from footbridge at Bridge and Station, but this proves unlikely as there had been no construction on the swamp between Bridge and Farrell until later.)"P. His leadership was successfully challenged by Julia Gillard. He contested Gillard's leadership in 2013 but subsequently lost the federal election. He left parliament after the ALP government was defeated by the Abbott Coalition. Norm Borchers passed away in 2008. Borchers was a Club President of the Sebastopol Lions Club (1975-76). He worked for the railways as an engineering employee and was long-term trade unionist (Amalgamated Engineering Union and the Australian Railways Union) and ALP member; he lived and worked in the Ballarat area. Norm was active in workplace disputes during the ALP split in 1955. He was a long time supporter of Ballarat Trades Hall. It is at the Melbourne Town Hall and the stage is filled with children in costumes, some holding Australian flags. President Geoff Handbury is speaking at the microphone. Large Legacy Golden Jubilee sign and torch symbol above the performers. Legacy would stage annual demonstrations for many years to showcase the skills of the junior Legatees. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and Eurythmics. The Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to the 1980's, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall or Olympic Pool Stadium. It shows a girl dressed as a spider in a large spiderweb with other girls dancing below. This routine was done multiple times over the years. These three appear to be the same year based on the set and camera angle. One of the photos was published in the December 1946 newsletter so the year was 1946. They were in an album of press photos taken during dress rehearsals from the 1940s and 1950s. Throughout the year Melbourne Legacy provided classes for Junior Legatees such as dancing, gymnastics and Eurythmics. The Demonstration was an annual event to showcase their skills. Melbourne Legacy conducted Annual Demonstrations / Parades from 1928 through to 1979, usually held at Melbourne Town Hall.
