This is a cardboard colourised certificate. It was put out by Victorian Education Department. On top centre is a crest showing two women. A shield with Southern Cross, around the words "Education Dept Victoria", are garlands of gum leaves and gum nuts. At the bottom of the certificate are printed figures of a girl and boy. ALBERT WILLIAM MALLOY No 428333 RAAF. He enlisted on 10.10.1942 aged 29 years 6 months. During training he was posted to 8 differant units and rose through the ranks from Airman Pilot to W/O on 26.2.1945. Finally embarked from Cairns for New Guinea with No 8 Communications Unit on 7.4.1945, granted a Commission as Pilot Officer (P/O) on 1.7.1945, disembarked Townsville 21.11.1945, discharged from the RAAF on 14.12.1945. No 8 Communication Unit. There were 13 RAAF communication Units during WW2 which provided support roles including transport, supplying isolated Garrisons and support training. Steamer trunks (named after their location of storage in the cabin of a steamship, or "steamer") which are sometimes referred to as flat-tops, first appeared in the late 1870s, although the greater bulk of them date from the 1880–1920 period. They are distinguished by either their flat or slightly curved tops and were usually covered in canvas, leather or patterned paper and about (36 cm) tall to accommodate steamship luggage regulations. Steamer trunks were originally called a cabin trunk. An orthodox name for this type of trunk would be a "packer" trunk, but since it has been widely called a steamer for so long, it is now a hallmark of the style. A trunk, also known as a travel trunk, is a large cuboid container designed to hold clothes and other personal belongings. They are most commonly used for extended periods away from home. Trunks are differentiated from chests by their more rugged construction due to their intended use as luggage, instead of storage. Among the many styles of trunks, there are Jenny Lind, Saratoga, monitor, steamer or Cabin, barrel-staves, octagon or bevel-top, wardrobe, dome-top, barrel-top, wall trunks, and even full dresser trunks. These differing styles often only lasted for a decade or two and along with the hardware can be extremely helpful in dating an unmarked trunk. Although trunks have been around for thousands of years in China and elsewhere, the most common styles seen and referred to today date from the late 18th century to the early 20th century when they were supplanted in the market by the cost-effective and lighter suitcase. There were hundreds of trunk manufacturers in the United States and a few of the larger and well-known companies were Rhino Trunk & Case, C.A. Taylor, Haskell Brothers, Martin Maier, Romadka Bros, Goldsmith & Son, Crouch & Fitzgerald, M. M. Secor, Winship, Hartmann, Belber, Oshkosh, Seward, and Leatheroid. One of the largest American manufacturers of trunks at one point the Seward Trunk Co. of Petersburg, Virginia still makes them for school and camp, and another company Shwayder Trunk Company of Denver, Colorado would eventually become Samsonite. Another is the English luxury goods manufacturer H.J. Cave trading since 1839. Their Osilite trunk was used by such famous customers as T.E. After training as a Cartographic Draftsman within the mining industry, I worked as a property illustrator for real estate firms in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 23 years from 1983. I initially photographed houses with a Polaroid camera and made a 'thumbnail' sketch while there. The photos were used to scale off a sketch in pencil and then that sketch was overlaid with drafting film and the 'pen and ink' completed. The pens I used were the Rotring ‘Rapidigraph’ drafting pens. The ink was also made by Rotring (German).The film was ‘Rapidraw’, polyester drafting film, double matte. It takes a very fine line and doesn’t bleed. As well as house sketches, there were often floor plans and site plans ordered. Aerial sketches were ordered when the property needed an overall view. Members of the local community have gathered to plant an avenue of honour. Through community fundraising, funds for over 140 trees had been raised.An avenue of honour was planted after World War I (WWI) to commemorate those from the area who had died during service. The arboreal Avenue of Honour has been an enduring and highly popular form of public commemoration of military service in Australia. With a significant groundswell of community endeavour, as a nation, Australians have chosen to recognise service, sacrifice and suffering through community plantings of memorial Avenues of Honour. The earliest recorded Avenues of Honour were created in response to Australia’s participation in the Boer War, but the majority were established during and after World War I and, to a lesser extent, World War II. Photographs of Junior Legatees doing outdoor activities. Melbourne Legacy arranged many events for Junior Legatees to experience. One photo has 12 children on bicycles in a forest. Another has four children in kayaks playing and having a water fight with their paddles. Another photo has a young child with a supervisor getting ready for abseiling. Names are unknown. It was with a group of photos from the 1990's in a folio with paper labels. The article in The Answer explains it was a the annual two week summer camp for Junior Legatees. In 1995 it was held at Cave Hill Creek, near Beaufort and the nearby Mt Cole State Forest. The children were supervised by a team of 12 experienced leaders from the Melbourne Legacy Leadership group assisted by educational instructors. A total of 50 attended the camp (27 boys and 23 girls). Most came from Melbourne but some from country Victoria and 9 from South Australia.
