Australian Tramway Employees Association (Tramways Union) badge. Badge made of brass with words "Australian Tramway Employees Association" on outer edge of badge with a royal blue enamel background. In centre of badge has the Australian coat of arms with a railway type spoke wheel above the logo and underneath the coat of arms the words "Federated Australia" in a banner. The metal ring at the top of the badge has been torn. On back of badge has stamped into the badge "1580", indicating badge number. Uniform - Coat Button/s, Buttons Birmingham, c1916
Set of four nickel silver MMTB Coat buttons with brass backs and a sewing lug or ring on the rear. All of the items are made by Buttons of Birmingham - name stamped into the rear section. Two large - 22mm diameter and two 15mm dia. Received in a small envelope with information that they were issued by the Interim Tramway Board. Functional object - Conductors Bell - cable tram, c1890
Bell used by the conductor to signal to the driver to stop, proceed or an emergency stop. The flat leather strap indicates it was used on a cable tram, rather than an electric tramcar which were fitted with round leather cords. The leather strap is riveted to a round steel ring.Demonstrates a conductors communication or signal bell made for use on cable trams.Brass Conductor Communication Bell, or signal bell, consisting of cast frame, bell striker and bell pull part. Badge - SEC pass - set of 27, AMOR, c1950?
Set of 27 Stamped enamelled round brass pieces with a hole stamped at the top and ring placed through. Used as a SEC tramways employees pass for either all Provincial tramways, Ballarat or Bendigo only. All badges have the SEC logo in the centre, organisational name (State Electricity Commission of Victoria) in white enamel and outer ring the words "Electricity Supply Department, Provincial Tramways", or "Electric Tramways Ballarat" or "Electric Tramways Bendigo". This is in blue enamel. On the rear are stamped numbers and manufacturers name - "AMOR" or "AMOR MELB" or "STOKES & SONS MELBOURNE" in the bottom portion of the pass. Items .1 -> .10, .12, .13 individually tagged. Demonstrates how the SEC used signage to confirm procedures for Tramway Crews. A metal, brass coloured sign originally etched and painted with black for the lettering and border lines. The sign has been overpainted with green paint. The sign gives detailed instructions to Tram Crews who may be involved in an incident which delays the service. Used in orchards by Harry Shaw (Orchardist in Springvale Rd, Glen Waverley near cnr Highbury Road) Orchard was sold in 1950. Later used on poultry farm in Forest Hills.Body of scales: brass plate inscribed - Salter Pocket Balance, made in England. No.3. To weigh 50LB. Slide measure 0 to 50. Primus Stove
The stove was the property of John Biggart, who lived in Avonsleigh. He travelled Victoria from 1920 to the 1940's. The stove was used at a work camp site.Brass base containing the kerosene fuel tank, above which rises a burning tube and burner assembly. The steel top rings are held above the burner by 3 support legs. To light the stove, a small amount of alcohol is put into the spirit cup, just below the burner to preheat it. Kerosene was then vaporised, mixed with air and it burns with a soot less, blue flame.PRIMUS No. 1. MADE IN SWEDEN. TRADEMARK PRI-MUS. PATENT SB. No 48624. ENG No 171536, all on the top of the tank.
