General – Country Roads Board Albion Street bridge over Moonee Ponds Creek, Brunswick West Deck Forms October 1955Record of various Shire of Eltham infrastructure works undertaken during the period of 1952-1962 involving bridge and road reconstruction projects, sometimes with Eltham Shire Council Project Reference numbers quoted. It was during this period that a number of significant improvements were made to roads and new bridges constructed within the shire that remain in place as of present day (2022). In many situations, the photos provide a tangible visible record of infrastructure that existed throughout the early days of the Shire. The album was put together by or under the direction of the Shire Engineer, J.A. Born in 1883, Herb was the eldest of David and Martha’s 8 children. He moved to Greensborough with the family at age 17. He was a good sportsman, playing cricket and excelling at wood chopping winning many ribbons at shows. He moved to Brunswick after his marriage in 1917 where he worked as a carter. The National Library notes in its collection - Decorated dummy and car which, electrically illuminated, traversed the Melbourne cable tramways in celebration of peace, on the evenings of Monday and Tuesday, the 14th and 15th July, 1919. Has a illustrated card published by the Tramway Board 1919. Five men on the tram in full uniform of the time. Based on the background - billboards and a church, the photo was taken at Prahran.
