Newspaper clipping from the Geelong Advertiser? dated 5-3-1956, titled "Buses take over North Route" about the last tram running on the Sunday night and buses taking over Monday (item written it would appear for the Tuesday paper). Gives bus passenger numbers and bus numbers for the evening peak on Monday, quotes Mr. F. P. Mountjoy of the Transport Regulation Board who visited Geelong. Last paragraph notes that some Belmont trams will run to the railway station to connect with the "important" trains from Melbourne, until the closure of the Belmont service on March 25. 1037 - Newspaper clipping from The Sun (Melbourne), April 15, 1972 in the Magazine section of the newspaper, called 'Then and Now' about the closure the following day of the Bendigo tramways. Gives an outline history of the tramway system, and two stories about the tramways, one about a driver named "Hellfire Jack" and an accident between a tram he was driving and a horse pulled dray loaded with tomatoes. All from The Courier, unless noted otherwise. 1 - "Bus v Tram" - 10-2-1962 - letter - from M Stewart of Sydney, say that the move to buses as in Sydney should not be allowed to happen. 2 - "Tram Facts" - 13-2-62 - letter - about the need for a private operator to run at a profit, higher fares - a public authority would maintain concession fares. 3 - "On the Lines" - 13-2-62 - letter - supporting the trammies. 4 - "Bendigo Meeting Moves to Retain Trams" - 12-3-62 - reporting on a meeting of 11-2-62- in Bendigo, well attended. Ephemera - Ticket/s, ARHS / TMSV joint tour to Farewell Ballarat Trams, 1971
Has a strong association with the tours to mark the closure of the Ballarat Tramway system and Graeme Breydon.Edmondson pasteboard railway ticket, No. 741, dated 21 august 1971, for use on an ARHS / TMSV joint tour to Farewell Ballarat Trams - the first day of the closure of the system. Ticket base is white with three vertical green stripes, which is printed in landscape format. Has been over stamped "Farewell Ballarat Trams" and "Tramway Museum Society of Victoria". From memory, these tickets were bulk printed by the Victorian Railways for the ARHS and the over stamped for use on particular days/events, meals etc. Would have been used as the tram ticket on the day. Cuttings from the Ballarat Courier, date from around 23 August 1971 following the closure of the Victoria St lines and part of the Gardens route. Includes a poem titled "Vale, the Tramways!", written by SMP, an item by a staff report going to to school by tram in Victoria St and Sturt St ""Will miss the tram".
