Legatee Donovan Joynt at the opening of the Puckapunyal Sportsman's club that was named after him. The notes, dated March 1983, could have been for a newspaper article. "IT'S A HELPING HAND... for one of Australia's most distinguished soldiers outside his own memorial at Puckapunyal. Sapper Mark Drummond of Seymour, a member of 21st Construction Squadron, which built the Memorial, holds an umbrella and commander 3rd Military District, Brigadier Geoff Cohen of Canterbury, wheels Lieutenant Colonel Donovan Joynt VC to lunch. Lt Col Joynt, 94, donated more than half the cost of the $130,000 Donovan Joynt VC Memorial Sportsman's Club in the background. A tug of war held in Melbourne City Square to promote Legacy Week in 1992. The note mentions it was a Legacy team against a media team. Ron Barassi can be seen at the end of the rope of the Legacy team. The note also mentions a widow who jumped in to help, Mrs Amy Chandler (lady in navy blue). The judge appears to be Sir Weary Dunlop. Another photo shows a staff member (Susie Howard?) and radio personalities also competing - possibly the Fox FM crew that helped in other events. Ron Barassi was a Legacy boy after his father died at Tobruk in 1941. He helped promote Legacy in many ways and at many events over many years. A report by the Future Requirements Committee dated 11 October 1978. The Committee members were(Chairman): I.W. Anderson, E. Cohen, A.N. Kemsley, L.D. King, J.M. Poulton, R.L. Simmons The Committee notes that its recommendations would probably be resisted by some Legatees but were necessary to meet the changing needs of dependants. They highlighted cancelling the supply of firewood, cessation in 1978 of the Badge Day appeal in Melbourne and the special Christmas promotion, and the Christmas Garden Party at Government House. Boys and Girls classes to be phased out, and Blamey House and Stanhope residences to be closed in 1979-80, with dental care to cease in 1980. Produced by Camberwell depot staff to mark the 80th anniversary of the depot - 1929 to 2009. Has the letter of the depot printed on the front of the depot. Metal badge has the name of the depot as well as "V" and "80". On the inside of the card explains the basis of the depots timetable or run number letter V, because it was located in the Vee formed by Riversdale and Camberwell Roads. The second card notes that the depot is not in Camberwell but Hawthorn East and that there are no numbers on the rear wall after a tram crashed through it in the early 1970s. Notice to traffic staff dated 19/1/1955, Kew Depot about not punching of the Bundy Clock at Victoria Bridge during the AM peak as a temporary measure. Trams that shunted at this location were required to record the clock. This is possibly as the result of an incident at this location with motor car traffic and the difficulty to access the clock in heavy traffic. Born in 1900, Margaret Cunningham was educated at Clyde and Melbourne University where she took a science degree, not a common choice for women in those days; then, after a time as welfare superintendent at a large department store, she went to London to train as a teacher. Back in Melbourne she joined the staff of Fintona, a girls' school which she later bought and transferred to a new site.
