Twenty one pages of typed speech notes for 'my policy speech on the occasion of this 1955 election for the Legislative Assembly of the State of Victoria'. Corrections and additions in black ink. On the other side is written: One building has already been demolished and the proprietor of the Newsagency & mixed business Mr. L W Norris, will also demolish and rebuild further back from the road in preparation for eventual re-alignment of the Long Gully bend by the Country Roads Board. The Board declared an alignment some years ago for the corner - a severe traffic hazard - but, the assistant Divisional Engineer, Mr G Marshallsea said yesterday the Board had no immediate plans. The book commemorates the opening of the Afsluitdijk in 1932. Shutting off the North Sea created the IJsselmeer and connected the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. It has remained an essential traffic artery every since.The book records the cultural, economic and social impact of the Afsluitdijk on the Netherlands. A 56page rectanguar book commemorating the opening of the Afsluitdijk. The cover is of thick card while within the pages of text are illustrated with black and white photographs.Originally owned and eventually deregistered by "De Utrechtse Openbare Bibliotheek" (Utrecht Public Library). Another stamp. "Filiaal Elinkwijk" shows it was used by the library branch in Elinkwijk. Full title is "Vijfentwintig Jaar Afsluitdijk". Authors and illustrators are B. Den Oudsten en P.Terpstra with an introduction by the Queen's representative in Friesland, Mr.H.P.Linthorst Homan. Publisher is Algmeen Publiciteit Kantoor, Oosterkade 20b, Leeuwarden. -

Victorian Railways 2'6" Transporter wagon 129Q, 1926
The Q class were introduced as bogie flatwagons in the 1870's. Large Q wagons as shown were built to the 1920's In the early 1900's, some Q wagons were modified for Pintsch Gas traffic with a small pump motor cabin at one end and a tank for carrying the gas. Other conversions for traffic were as required. Examples were: sheet glass, skeletal underframes between workshops In 1926 the railways built two narrow gauge Garratt locomotives. As normal wagons were unsuitable for moving these locomotives a special skeletal wagon was built. The engines were split into units for transportation. It featured axle bearings and boxes from steam engines, had hinged buffers that could drop out of the way during loading/unloading. It also featured 'strap' rail along the deck. The wagon was Q 129. INSULATED wagon. Built in 1899 and numbered 1, it was the only one of its type built Service History : NTT In October 1899 a bogie insulated van was built and placed into traffic. In 1926, the class was relettered to NT. Obtained by the Puffing Billy Preservation Society By 1969, the vehicle was in the Menzies Creek Museum. Currently Located at Belgrave Station The NT is an insulated van. The wooden body (both sides and roof) was insulated with cowhair. It had two swinging doors either side in the middle, as have the NU vans. The van was painted white, in an attempt to reflect the summer heat. There was only one built for the narrow gauge lines. G42, Garratt Steam Locomotive, 1926
G42 Garratt Steam Locomotive Traffic and train loadings on Victoria's narrow gauge railways reached their peak during the 1920s. To assist in handling the longer, heavier trains, the Victorian Railways ordered two larger, more powerful Beyer Garratt locomotives. These were delivered in 1926 and were numbered G41 and G42. They were sent to work on the Colac–Beech Forest–Crowes line and the Moe–Walhalla line respectively. After the line from Moe closed in 1954, G42 was sent to Colac, where it worked with its mate, G41, until closure of that line in mid-1962. G41 had been in poor condition and was scrapped, whereas a brighter future awaited G42. The Victorian Railways offered G42 to the Puffing Billy Preservation Society, for display as a static exhibit in the Menzies Creek Museum. Over time, a plan evolved to restore G42 to operation, a goal that was eventually achieved by the launch of G42 back into traffic in April 2004. G42 now continues to operate as a restored member of the Puffing Billy Railway's locomotive fleet. After an overhaul at Newport Workshops, it was issued to the Colac to Crowes line and remained there until that line closed in 1962 when it was returned to Newport Workshops for storage. In 1964 it was sold to the Puffing Billy Preservation Society and removed from the V.R. register 3 months later. It arrived at Belgrave in 1968 and was hauled to Menzies Creek for static display in the museum. 1986 saw the commencement of restoration the Belgrave workshops and has been restored to its 1946 to 1954 condition with raised cab roof, raised marker lamps, steel cow-catchers and all-over black livery. It was returned to service on April 18, 2004.
