Allan Quinn travelled through the U.S.A in 1947, documenting everything he did and saw in letters he sent home to his mother, and photographs. This photograph is of the Cliff House restaurant, in San Francisco, which has a long history of it's own. Alan Quinn was fascinated with American life, and frequently visited tourist attractions as well as everyday places such as shops and cafes.This is a photograph from the Allan Charles Quinn collection which is a collection of letters and photograph depicting aspects of life at sea for a young man in the era immediately following World War II.A black and white photograph of the Cliff House restaurant in San Francisco. The photograph has been taken from a hill top opposite the restaurant, looking down to it and the ocean below. Dr Harry Jenkins owned Churchill Island from 1936 to 1963 and bequeathed it to Margaret Campbell on his death. Sister Campbell had been nurse to his disabled son and wife and she lived on the island from the time of World War Two. The item was given to Arthur Evans, a family friend, on the day of the auction sale of artifacts when she sold the island, approximately 1973.The document demonstrates Harry Jenkins involvement in the farm and provides information on farm life in the era.Paper Motor Spirit Consumer's Licence for Primary Producer Truck issued by Commonwealth of Australia Liquid Fuel Control Board (Vic) to Edward H. A Plaque was erected on the occassion of the re-enactment. The wording is as follows: "In Recognition of a brave adventure on January 5 1998. Five men: Bern Cuthbertson (skipper), Tom O'Byrne (first mate), Craig Dixon, Rick McMahon and Geoff Zwan, landed in Flinders after 4 weeks at sea having rowed and sailed from Darling Harbour Sydney in the 'Elizabeth', a nine metre whale boat. This voyage re-enacted the discovery and naming of Western Port by Royal Navy Surgeon George Bass and his crew of five in 1798." They rowed an 8.7m long open whale boat some 1930 km from Port Jackson (Sydney).A collection of colour photographs taken at the re-enactment of the landing of George Bass.
