Historical information

Allan Quinn travelled through the U.S.A in 1947, documenting everything he did and saw in letters he sent home to his mother, and photographs. This photograph is of the Cliff House restaurant, in San Francisco, which has a long history of it's own. Alan Quinn was fascinated with American life, and frequently visited tourist attractions as well as everyday places such as shops and cafes.

Significance

This is a photograph from the Allan Charles Quinn collection which is a collection of letters and photograph depicting aspects of life at sea for a young man in the era immediately following World War II.

Physical description

A black and white photograph of the Cliff House restaurant in San Francisco. The photograph has been taken from a hill top opposite the restaurant, looking down to it and the ocean below. There are many cars parked outside the restaurant.
