Includes images of cable cars in Chicago, San Francisco. PCC car 7022 of Baltimore image includedHas a strong association with Wal Jack and his collecting of tramway history / developments until 1964.Floor pattern covered album with black paper inside covers holding some 21 sheets of card on which photos have been mounted using photo corners of various types, captions in white ink. Has punched holes on the left hand side but was not bound with cord at the time of acquisition. Parts of the album originally started as a the Melbourne album and remnants of photos hinges and notes left on the sheets. Has some 142 black and white photographs. Robin Boyd developed a close friendship with the founder of the Bauhaus in Weimar Germany, Walter Gropius, who had moved to the USA in the 1930s. Through this connection, Boyd was invited to be the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Bemis Professor at the School in the North American academic year 1956-7. Robin and Patricia Boyd, with their youngest daughter Suzy, were based in Cambridge, Massachusetts for the year. Boyd gave some lectures at MIT and he was also invited to give lectures at many other universities, allowing him to travel widely within the USA, especially on the East Coast. This gave him the opportunity to meet architects like Frank Lloyd Wright, Eero Saarinen, Paul Rudolph and many others, and visit the offices of Skidmore, Owings and Merrill, and places like Taliesin and the General Motors Technical Center Detroit. On the way home, the Boyds visited London, Berlin, Paris and Le Corbusier’s Ronchamp Chapel in France.Colour slide in a mount. Used by Harold and Jean ParkerAntique wooden mantle clock made in USA with an Australian made Duff brand oak case with a plain angled top with round shaped pillar styled sides. It has a white ceramic dial face with black digits and black metal hands. The dial is covered by a glass and gold trimmed covering that may be opened on the right side. Inside the case is a Waterbury Clock Co of USA key and the internal workings are visible. It is not in working order.Duff brand brass plaque on back of cover. Machine - Rope machine, Continental Trading Corporation Ltd, ca. 1911
This rope-making machine, called The New Era Rope Machine, was patented in the USA on July 18th 1911. It was made by the Continental Trading Corporation Ltd. in Chicago, USA. The ends of the rope would be threaded through the matching and hooked onto the machine's claws on the other side. The machine's handle would be rotated manually, which would twist the rope ends together, entwining them to make one thick rope.This manually operated rope-making machine is a labour saving devise used particularly by sailmakers in their rigging and ropework tasks. Rope-making machine, metal. The model is "The New Era Rope Machine". The manually operated machine has three claws through which roping material is threaded. Internal wheels have cogs around their perimeter. The two pieces that make up the machine's case are bolted together. Made by Continental Trading corporation Ltd Chicago USA. From the home of Mr and Mrs Parker. belonged to Mr Parker senior.Ornate carved dark timber mantle pendulum clock with brass clock face surround. Has a white dial with black roman numerals and black metal hands. The Ansonia Clock Co. Manufacturers USA Trademark A is printed on the face. It has an ornate brass pendulum and the internal workings are visible. The very ornately embossed in gold decorated glass front opens. There are two spirit plumb levels inside, one is aluminium metal and is attached to the wall, the other is brass with Wm Hunt Level Co with a triangle on top stamped on it. There is a brass key No.7 with two holes on the top of the winder handle. The Ansonia Clock Co. Manufacturers USA Trademark A. printed on the dial.
