Miss Olive Codling was a Foundation Member and a Life Member of the Wodonga Historical Society. Many of her prize-winning photos are held in the Society Collection. She also held a range of roles and committee positions in a wide range of Wodonga community organisations. These included the Horticultural Society, the Wodonga Arts Council, the Wodonga Camera Club and the Wodonga Lapidary Club. This photo collection is significant as it documents how the businesses and buildings in Wodonga have evolved and contributed to community throughout the 20th century.Wodonga, High Street West Businesses including Emilio's Bistro, Bill Baxter office, Hume Permanent and Sharrock Motors. Hume Permanent opened its branch at 97 High Street, Wodonga on 6th March, 1972 with Mr. D. Hepburn as manager. ‘Permanent’ was dropped from Hume Building Society’s name in 1988. Built in 1869 and opened in 1872 by Bishop Perry In 1988, it was dismantled and rebuilt in Wadonga. Efforts were made to save the building. The foundations needed significant work. Many of its adherents were deeply distressed by its loss. The building used by Nelson Undertakers in Linton from the 1860s was renovated into a Californian bungalow in the 1920s. After being restored again in 1988/89, this building became the Resource Centre of the Linton & District Historical Society. For many years from 1988, Legacy held a public speaking contest called the Junior Plain English Speaking Award. Schools were eligible to send along representatives that competed. These two photos show President Geoffrey Swan with a Lana Jenkings (the winner) of Genazzano FCJ College in Kew. Part of her speech was printed in the Melbourne Legacy newsletter and she was featured in an article in the Herald Sun on 26 June 1992, before she headed to Sydney for the National finals.
