Thomas Joseph Fogarty, born 15th July 1859, came to Australia from Tipperary, Ireland and opened two licensed grocery stores in Balaclava and Caulfield South in Victoria. His first store in Balaclava was at 145 Carlisle Street. Following a fire on 25 February 1907, the store was moved to 159 Carlisle Street. The store was later run by his son Francis Joseph Fogarty who moved it across the road in about 1950, though the registered office remained 159 Carlisle Street. This cream can was used to store cream at the Paradise Hotel in Clematics, which could then be sent to a butter factory with the can returning to the owners. Before 1921, Clematis was named Paradise; as this can is labelled Clematis, it almost certainly came from after 1921, likely in the 1920s when Catherine O'Connor was registered as the owner and ran the hotel alongside her sisters Janet and Minnie (possibly the 'M' in "M. O'Connor"). The hotel is still operating today, having been run by the O'Connors into the 1950s and by a succession of different owners since.This is an artifact known to originate from the highly locally significant Paradise Hotel. A rusted metal cyllindrical container, with two handles attached near the top. The interior is somewhat less rusted than the exterior. No lid is present. The container appears to be welded together, with some bolts at the concave base. There is a metal label attached to the side, with embossed text.Embossed Label: "M. This site was originally that of Cobb and Co's livery stable and although the Cobb and Co office in the Shamrock Hotel closed in 1886, the livery stable continued with the proprietors, Robertson and Wagner and Co. The site was bought in August 1898 by the Fresh Food and Frozen Storage Co, proprietors of the Bendigo Butter Factory. On this site the company built an ice tory, refrigerating works and cool storage for other businesses. The Bendigo Butter Factory was begun in 1894 in Lucan Street, opposite the distillery, by Mr McIntyre of the Rochester district. This site included a butter printer and Weigher supplied by Cherry and Son of Gisborne. In September 1895 the Butter factory was floated as a public company and was registered by Mr J H Curnow. However the factory was not financially sound at this point and entered into receivership in 1896. At this time it was bought by the Fresh Food and Frozen Storage Company of Melbourne and was placed under the management of James Cumming, an experienced dairyman. The company had previously appointed him as their inspector of creameries. By 1911 he was the propietor of the Flora Hill Butter Factory. and was later killed in a car accident in May 1937. By 1919 the manager was Douglas Orson Oldfield (1868-1944) (NB at birth he was registered as Dugald and throughout his life he was also known as Dan).Colour photograph. This ship model is a representation of the wooden barque Hygeia, which is also the name of the Greek goddess of health, cleanliness and hygiene. The model flies the Italian flag, which was adopted in 1946 but originated in 1797. The colours stand for freedom, solidarity and equality. The three-masted, wooden barque Hygeia was built in 1863 in the UK by J.M. Reed to carry cargo. It was first registered on July 30th, 1863, at Sunderland, UK, by owners Matthew Cay Jr. & Joseph Crisp. In August 1877, the ship was dispatched from Alexandria, Egypt, destined for Fairmouth with a cargo of beans, but mysteriously went missing. The ship diorama exemplifies the popular, centuries-old hobby of ship model making, with the setting of sea and sky giving it depth and context. The model also shows the configuration of a three-masted, fully rigged sailing ship, of the type that carried immigrants to Australia. The Electoral Act 1856 was passed through Parliament o March 13, 1856. Victoria was the first Australian colony, and the first legislature anywhere in the world, to adopt the practice of the secret ballot. Victoria's constitution prescribed that the Parliament was to be bicameral, consisting of an upper house, the Legislative Council and a lower house, Legislative Assembly. Men were entitled to vote according to the qualifications described in this book - the right to vote in each house was dependent on status - educational qualifications, income and for either literacy. Two names are registered for the Orbost district: James Dickson and J.C. McLeod.This item is a useful research tool.A 16 pp paper back book which has a clear plastic cover. The letter writer G. R. Locke has read Robin Boyd's newspaper articles on early public buildings and homes. This letter tells Boyd about the historic home "Auburn House", 4 Goodall St Hawthorn, established for Robert Hepburn with land purchased in 1856. It also tells of the confusion with neighbouring house "Auburn Lodge". Since Boyd writes on early Melbourne public buildings and homes, the writer is inviting Boyd to view the house. It is not known whether Robin Boyd took up the invitation. In 1960 it was included in the National Trust Register.

Set of 7 images of the last built (1925) cable tram car house or depot in Howard St North Melbourne. This building replaced the Flemington Road car house when the cable tram track in Flemington Road was electrified during July 1925. The building is on the Heritage Register - see reference. When closed in 1935, it was subsequently sold to a furniture company. In 2017 it was occupied by City Prestige Automobiles. After training as a Cartographic Draftsman within the mining industry, I worked as a property illustrator for real estate firms in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne for 23 years from 1983. I initially photographed houses with a Polaroid camera and made a 'thumbnail' sketch while there. The photos were used to scale off a sketch in pencil and then that sketch was overlaid with drafting film and the 'pen and ink' completed. The pens I used were the Rotring ‘Rapidigraph’ drafting pens. The ink was also made by Rotring (German).The film was ‘Rapidraw’, polyester drafting film, double matte. It takes a very fine line and doesn’t bleed. As well as house sketches, there were often floor plans and site plans ordered. Aerial sketches were ordered when the property needed an overall view. Between 1951 and 1996, Alexandra completed a number of significant projects including a regional art gallery and library complex at Hamilton, Victoria (1958-59). The house, and another residence in Molesworth Street (1961), is one of his notable residential projects. William Abednego Thompson (11 October 1811 – 23 August 1880), also known as Bendigo Thompson, was an English bare-knuckle boxer who won the heavyweight championship of England from James Burke on 12 February 1839.[3] He was inducted into The Ring magazine Hall of Fame in 1955, the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991[3] and the Bare Knuckle Boxing Hall of Fame in 2011.
