Built on the site of the original Government Camp site in 1863, the Sandhurst Prison held both male and female prisoners. It was renamed the Bendigo Prison in 1972 as a medium security prison for male inmates. This was found by Kevin Ingram while cleaning the Orbost Butter Factory site in 1991. The Orbost Butter and Produce Co. Ltd was registered on June 1st 1893 and was an important source of income to the Orbost district. A 1 lb butter press with a cylindrical metal handle on a square base.
