During the First World War on 8 October 1914, the British Royal Flying Corps (RFC) arrived in Saint-Omer and a headquarters was established at the aerodrome next to the local race course. For the following four years, Saint-Omer was a focal point for all RFC operations in the field. Although most squadrons only used Saint-Omer as a transit camp before moving on to other locations, the base grew in importance as it increased its logistic support to the RFC. Many Royal Air Force squadrons can trace their roots to formation at Saint-Omer during this period. Among which are No. IX Squadron RAF which was formed at Saint-Omer, 14 December 1914 and No. 16 Squadron RAF which was formed on 10 February 1915. When the RAF's legless Battle of Britain ace, Douglas Bader, parachuted from his Spitfire during an aerial battle over France, he was initially treated at a Luftwaffe hospital at Saint Omer. Black and white photograph of the Club Hotel on Mount Dandenong Road, East Ringwood. The image was copied from the "Ringwood East Electric Station Estate" land sales brochure dated 1st November 1924. Refer to #5132. The hotel has a long association with the Reddish family, thus given the name of "Daisy's Hotel". Included 2 copies of the photograph. Ryman Healthcare bought the site in 2019, including the garden supply business next door, making up a 2.2ha area. The proposal was for a $220 million retirement village to be built. The location is next to Ringwood Lake with the old hotel being knocked down in the early 2020s.Was item H7 in the previous numbering system. -

Demonstrates aspects of the way the SEC reinforced a particular rule - rule 10A - intoxication - to employees by printing a special supplementary sheet and expanding on the rule itself.Single sheet of duplicated paper, titled "Special Order 66/1" in addition to the Rules Governing Employees, dated 9/1964 (See Reg, Item 3117). Given as Rule 10A, gave instructions regarding intoxicating liquor; alcohol, drinking on the job, entering hotels etc. Prepared by LGD (Les Denmead) and signed by F. K. White as Manager. Copy 1 - held in storage location as shown. Copy 2 - taped within item 3117. Copy 3 - from Ray Hall of Ararat -added 28-07-2006. Penrose wrote on 11/08/1959, on behalf of V. Willmott regarding her uncle. 2/Correspondence dated 12/09/83 from V. Willmott asking for information about her uncle, John Caulfield. 3/Typed correspondence date 14/09/1983 to Mrs. Willmott from Mrs. Joan Wills, mentioning that she was enclosing a biographical outline of John Phillip, Caulfield with her correspondence. 4/Typed letter to Mr. Caulfield from Joan Wills, regarding his sisters request to their descendants in Caulfield, dated 14/09/1983. 5/Typed letter to Joan Wills from W. W. Caulfield, dated 28/09/1983, informing her that he has no information regarding their ancestors in Caulfield. 6/Correspondence from Mrs. V. Willmott to Joan Wills, dated 03/10/1983, confirming that she is the niece of John Caulfield. 7/Correspondence from Mrs. V. Willmott, dated 10/10/1983 where she confirms details, she was sent from the biographical outline about her uncle. 8/Typed letter dated 19/10/1983 to Mrs. V. Willmott from Joan Wills, informing her of her brothers contacting them, but still have no positive information about her family. 9/Typed letter to Mrs. V. Willmott from Joan Wills, dated 19/10/1983, still unable to make any connections for her. 10/Typed letter dated 12/11/1983 to Mrs. V. Willmott from Joan Wills, just giving her a general suggestion of where she may get some ideas from her health + wellbeing. 11/Handwritten letter dated 26/11/1983 to Mrs. Wills from V. Willmott, talking about the biography she was writing, and still entreating her, if she could contact the ‘Age’ with an article about trying to find her ‘Caulfield’ family. 12/Typed letter from the Geneological Society of Victoria to Felicity Campbell, regarding all the mail from Mrs. V. Willmott, to assess them and their information, dated 14/12/1983, by Mrs. Joan Wills, research officer. 13/Two aerogram letters dated, 16/03/77 and 14/01/11 sent by V. Willmott to Peter R. Reproduces nine photographs of trams, including cable trams and a ex Melbourne W2 in Denver. In bottom left hand corner is a photo of the intersection of Main and Barkly St. with two Ballarat single truck trams in bound from Mt Pleasant, taken from the Ballarat Fire Station tower in 1971. Also has seven other photo reproductions from the Book itself of various tramway signs. Image is supplied by Randal Wilson in an email of 15/10/2019 Text of email from Randal Wilson of 15/10/2019: Hi Warren We managed to track down a digital version of the photo taken by the late Bill McNiven of the trams on the Mount Pleasant line (page 76 of The Melbourne Tram Book). We contacted UNSW Press, the book's publisher, which provided the following explanation. Apparently, the team there could not find the scan of the slide submitted for the book. However, a member of the team was able to capture a jpg of page 76 of the book. From my recollection of the original photo, the attached image is very close in terms of its reproduction quality.
