Tram has the war time stripes, no trolley pole and no destination boxes. One of the bogies is loaded on the goose neck of the truck. Tram became Geelong No. 38. Photo taken 15/5/1951 by Keith Kings. The North-Eastern Dairy Company was established on 14th December 1892 as a butter factory and built in 1893. In 1928 a new butter factory was built and a milk products factory in 1952. Whole milk sales commenced in 1951, with pasteurised, homogenised milk in both bottles and cartons being sold in the 1980's. Devondale / Murray Goulburn was established in 1950. Cartons enabled the safe transportation and storage of milk. The North East Dairy Company enabled the dairy farmers in the Kiewa Valley to send their milk and milk products eg. cream to the factory at Kiewa. The factory bought its own cream carting vehicles during WW1. The 'full cream / homogenised / pastuerised / milk' is an example of the milk available in the 1980's as many different varieties of ingredients followed in later years.Blue, red & white waterproof sealed cardboard box used for storing fresh milk from the Kiewa factory 'Murray Goulburn'. The large box contains 2 litres and the smaller box, 1 litre. Falls Creek Ski Resort developed during the construction of the Kiewa Hydro Electric Scheme built by the State Electricity Commission of Victoria. The first ski lodge was built in 1948 by workers from the scheme. The first lift, a rope tow, was built in 1951 and the first chairlift in Australia was constructed there in 1957. Falls Creek Post Office opened in 1958. Tourism was growing and being encouraged by local businesses.The souvenir postcard was produced by Mr S. K. Pearce a Mt Beauty businessman. It was a memento for skiers and visitors to the Falls Creek and Mt Beauty area to send to family and friends as a reminder of their visit to the region or to keep as a personal souvenir. It presented an excellent promotional opportunity for enterprising local businessmen to promote the area to skiers and tourists near and far. The Caretaker's cottage was built to replace the original 1927 hut, which had been built with left over stone from the tower. There was a desire to expand the size of the hut to make provision for a married caretaker. Was presented to Mrs Lucie Hallenstein, honorary secretary of Alfred Hospital combine auxiliaries c. 1920. Mrs Hallenstein's Granddaughter Jane Helena Walters nee Shannon trainee of Alfred Hospital 1948-1951 presented the box to the nursing achieves with a hand written letter of explanation on 28/04/2011. Paper card insert is signed by Louisa Mann who was matron from 1912-1928.Item is significant as it was presented from Louisa Mann. Item also carries the Maltese cross from the Alfred hospital insignia. Has been presented to the archive from Alfred Hospital trainee. Handcrafted wooden box with parquetry Maltese cross in center. Box is made with multiple timber types and shades, is finished with a gloss finish. Two brass hinges allow the box to open. Produced in preparation for the visit of the Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth were scheduled to tour Australia along with Princess Margaret. Their tour was cancelled November 1951 due to the King's health and replaced with scheduled tour for the Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh, scheduled for Early 1952. The card was produced to commemorate the visit, but the tour was cancelled after the death of King George VI in February of 1952. Folded A5 card commemorating the Duchess and Duke of Edinburgh's visit to Australia in 1952. Printed in colour, the card contains the Coat of arms of the United Kingdom on the front cover, images of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their coronation day in 1937, and a family portrait of then Princess Elizabeth, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Ann (date unknown). The steam tug 'Melbourne' originally 'Howard Smith' was owned by the Australian Steamships Pty Ltd. It was launched in 1951 in Aberdeen and completed in March 1952. It operated in Melbourne and transferred to Howard Smith Industries in 1964 as the 'Howard Smith' and later renamed 'Melbourne'. It sank after colliding with the 'Nieuw Holland' off Melbourne in 1972 and raised and stripped by 1975. It was finally scuttled in Morton Bay in January 1979. Lou's Cafe c. 1987. In the 1930s and early 40's it was Riches Cafe and Billiards Saloon. Sold to Halligan's, Duggans, Jerry Cowell until 1951 when Luths took over the building as a Car and Tractor agency. Next door was Bennett's Shoe Repair Shop which was later a Stock & Station Agency. Part of a streetscape series done for the Shire of Charlton c. 1987.Colour photograph of a single storey building. Signage on the windows reads Lou's CAFE and on the awning Lou's MILK Bar. Other signs on the windows read Fresh Fruit VEGS, meals, TAKE AWAY FOOD, FISH & CHIPS, HAMBURGERS. Signs above the awning advertise Pauls Streets and Peters ice creams. Two cars parked in front of shop and a man and a woman are standing beside one of the cars. James Hartley originally came to Bendigo in 1895 for a cycling race and decided to move there. In 1901 he was joined by his brother William and they began manufacturing bicycles. They expanded into importing motorcycles. James Learmonth Shoosmith (1881-1942) became the manager of Hartley Bros. in 1914. He married Ethel May Rule (1884-1951) in 1908. Shoosmith was the founding president of the Bendigo Cycling Club in 1921.Hartley's Invoice: No 11939 (J. L. Shoosmith). Manufactured by the Bell Punch Company Ltd of London as the "Ultimate Fare System", for issuing bus and tram tickets. Used by the MMTB for street sellers at Safety Zones in Melbourne. See items 7504 for a roll of 10c MMTB tickets and 7889 for a circular regarding their introduction in 1951. The machine was received from the donor with five rolls of NSW bus tickets - 3 Section, 25c, 45c, 60c and $1.00. Demonstrates a ticket machine used at Melbourne tram stops by "Safety Zone sellers".Complex apparatus consisting of metal parts, grey frame, levers, numbering counters, fitted with a cloth strap with clips and brown plastic backing. Rev. Farquhar Chisholm (1878 - 1953), Presbyterian minister, was born in Inverness, Scotland and ordained in 1908 in Kerang. He was a minister in country Victoria and Ballarat and was chaplain of Scotch College from 1919 - 1926. Farquhar Chisholm organised the building funds for Morongo Presbyterian Ladies' College Geelong and the Freemasons' Hospital and was a past grand chaplain of the Masonic Grand Lodge.Matte, black and white studio head and shoulders portrait of Rev.
