Originally a block of 200 tickets been stapled onto a heavy cardboard back with a heavy metal staple and a small cardboard retaining strip at the top of the ticket. The ticket number is in black ink while the "A" prefix is in orange. On rear in orange ink is a diagonal criss cross or tartan pattern. Does not have a 3d City Section Ticket. 4000 - Sheet of leather, approx. 2mm thick, stained brown with four pockets formed on each side with another sheet of leather, stitched on all sides to form pockets to hold eight blocks of tickets. Generally issued c1963, some have dates on rear.Group of eight different pre-decimal values of used SEC Ballarat Tickets, ex the Wal Jack Collection. Tickets already held on the BTM system in blocks. All except .7, have a tartan or criss cross back. 1. - 5d Green (5 No. - B400836, B265927, W808385, B400835, Z742326) - note the same as Reg Items 3991 and 3994, though the printing of the section marks do vary a bit. These were not imaged. 2. - 5d Green (M714336) - imaged - has different section system on the side to the above - used 1/3/1963. 3. - 6d Teal - (34 No.) - some sequential - All A series. Full pdf copy added 28/5/2019. Alan Bradley advised 25/4/2005. In the "Courier" of 26/6/1963, the adjustments to fares from 1/8/1963 were announced. They were only for adjustments to city section fares. Fares outside the city area remained unchanged. The SEC promoted these as being cheaper city section fares. Tom Evans gave me a copy of a poster showing a Scotsman boarding a tram. The caption was: "Now! It's cheaper to travel by tram! Beats walking every time!" New economy city fares.
