This framed photo usually hangs on the wall of the meeting room at the Invermay Hall, on the Invermay Reserve. The photograph features Invermay Cricket Club member Tom Reidy who donated his Cricket Club jacket to the Invermay Local History Assn. This jacket is now held in the ILHA Collection.The photograph is of historical and cultural significance. This is the only known copy of the photograph. Early examples of Melbourne Legacy Club newsletters, covering the activities of Melbourne Legacy Widows' Club. Information includes a notice from the Chairman of the Widows' Committee, dates of meetings, possible day trips and theatre outings, and cruises. The ladies were welcome to attend monthly meetings, card afternoons, indoor bowls competitions, outings and tours, plus the annual fete and Christmas concert. The Widows Club Chairman was L/- R.P.F. Goddard and later L/- B Harding and the editor was Mrs B.E. Shepard, Social Worker. The October 1972 edition mentions it was the 75th edition, and mentions it was started in 1960, previously there had been a quarterly magazine 'which had a limited distribution' and they wished to increase circulation to the increasing number of widows. The October 1973 edition has a supplement that includes text of a Legacy week television message given by the HRH Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh The November 1973 edition mentions a Message of Loyalty that was sent to the Queen. Also a Dafydd Lewis Scholarship that was available for a boy to attend tertiary level of education (though it specified NOT available for Arts, Education, Music or Theology courses). The page from October 1973 shows some of the day trips and tours available (such as to New Zealand for $499). Also the new pension rates in the 1973/74 budget. The first edition of the newsletter was in 1960, previously there had been a quarterly magazine but the distribution was limited, they changed to a 4 page newsletter format to reach more of the widows. The newsletter was priced at 2c a copy. The price of theatre tickets was $3. Various pages of interest have been added to show different news items. This Honour Board listing of servicemen contributes to and is part of a National collection of Memorials to honour our armed forces. Listed are 49 names of whom 11 are Fallen.This Presbyterian Church Honour Board is believed to be the only existing 1914 - 1918 Board of its type. It has social and cultural value - and is of local,State and National importance.Large rectangular solid varnished wooden Memorial has inscribed, in gold lettering, 49 local Wycheproof and District servicemen, 11 of whom are marked Fallen. In Retrospect In mid 1952, a distinguished man arrived in Bendigo and interested several citizens, including Dr. P Goodman, the President of the Musical Advancement Society, in the formation of a Company for the production of Musical Comedy. The meeting was called at the home of Mr Fred Bush, and a group of enthusiasts made the acquaintance of Mr Norman Lee, our producer and sequently the M.A.S. and several leading citizens, sponsored the first production, by subscribing funds for initial expenses. From such humble beginning, our present Society originated. Mr Cyril Cyril Warne was appointed Musical Director, Mrs Phyllis House, Pianist, and Miss Madge Welch, Ballet Mistress. During the Season of ''Chu Chin Chow,'' the Society will stage its 100th performance - indeed an outstanding feat in such a brief history. Arthur Dowsey, b. 1899, was the son of Thomas and Rebecca Jane (nee Harding) Dowsey and brother of Ruby May. HE married Una Beryl Whitey in 1925. Arthur died in 1975 and is buried at Ferntree Gully.Methodist Sunday School Union of Victoria and Tasmania. Second from Right is Legatee Eric Harding OBE, MM, who was also a member of the Limbless Soldiers' Association of Victoria as he lost a leg as a gunner in France in WW1. He served with the Australian Field Artillery in the original Anzac Corps. Despite loosing a leg he was active enough to ride with a Light Horse Party at the head of Melbourne's 1975 Anzac Day march.
