Rosella Preserving & Manufacturing Co. in Carlton, Victoria by H. R. McCraken and T. J. Press in 1895. The name and the logo are the Eastern Rosella which is a bird found down the east coast of Australia. The brand went into receivership but was bought back into Australian ownership by Sabrands Australia in 2013. QT fruit drops were manufactured by Allen's which was founded by Alfred Weaver Allen in1891 in Fitzroy. This product is no longer manufactured. Lagoon Confectioners Pty. Ltd. is a family-owned and operated business commenced in 1929. They are the original maker of the 'Sherbet Bomb'. The Chocolate Cream Toffees is from a Counter Box Display from the 1940s. Cottee's is a company founded in Australia in 1927. It manufactured and continues to produce cordial, jams, marmalades, spreads, toppings, jellies and puddings. Two copies of document : nineteen handwritten pages of notes on 'The Rich Victoria Hill and Its Historical Association' Signed by A Richardson and dated 30 - 8 - 1971. and a typed copy of same. Notes include: Introduction, Hotels, Mines, Mining History and descriptions of features where the signposts are. Mines mentioned in the text are: North Old Chum. Ballerstedt's first open cut, Lansell's Big 180. 20 head stamper, Lansell's Cleopatra Needle, Victoria Quartz Mine. Cleopatra's Needle was a square sectioned brick chimney with this four sided pyramidal chimney top with four vents to allow the smoke to escape whatever the direction of the wind. It was demolished in the 1950's as it had a bend in it and it was considered unsafe. Lansell had two other mines with similar chimneys, the '222' in Chum Street and his 'Sandhurst' or 'Needle' mine near the Bendigo, Eaglehawk boundary. Irish poet and balladeer Thomas Moore, best-known for penning The Minstrel Boy and The Last Rose of Summer, is honored in this statue prominently located in Sturt Street created by sculptor George Grant from white Carrara marble. George Grant was trained at the School of Art associated with the National Gallery of Victoria, apparently in the 1880s, and then worked as an artist, specialist house painter, and banner artist. Several of his paintings are held by the Ballarat Art Gallery. Moore`s writings range from lyric to satire, from prose romance to history and biography. His popular "Irish Melodies" appeared in ten parts between 1807 and 1835. Moore was a good musician and skillful writer of songs, which he set to Irish tunes, mainly of the 18th century. Statue of Ruth is a religious reference to the harvest and to the importance of motherhood. Ruth was sculpted by Charles Summers a central figure in Australian art from the mid 19th Century. Summers was a founder of the Victorian Society of Fine Arts in 1856 and in 1863 he became a member of the commission of inquiry into the promotion of the fine arts in Victoria.
