Peter Nicholaas Wurtheim Wallinga was born in the Netherlands in 1929, and emigrated to Australia in 1939. In 1963-4 he purchased a block of land and built a house at 44 Sackville Street, Kew. A company director, he was elected to Council in August 1973. His first term as Mayor began in August 1976. When Cr Wallinga was re-elected Mayor in 1980-1, he was also the newly elected President of Kew Lions Club. During his two mayoral terms, Cr Wallinga attended many functions representing the City of Kew, opening events, presenting awards and leading the Council in decision-making. When he retired from Council in 1982, he continued to live in Sackville Street until January 1992, when he moved to Mitcham. The Conder Shield was sponsored by Major Wally Conder, a keen sportsman (amongst other occupations,) who sought to promote wrestling and boxing during his time as president of the Victorian Amateur Wrestling and Boxing Association. Presented to the winning club of the Inter-Club Gymnasium Competition, over a series of matches in individual athleticism. These included skipping, roller cycling and chinning bar, as well as light-weight, middle-weight and welter-weight wrestling. The clubs that vied for this shield were the Trojans (from the RVIB), Bonbeach Surf and Life Saving Club and Beattie's Physical Culture School. In 1934, the Trojans team consisted of Neil Westh, Charlie Bradley, A. McDonald, T. Hanlon, B. Cook and coach/captain V. Blucher. Mr Henry Vincent Blucher was a former police constable to lost his sight in 1931 due to a car accident, and who had previously held the title of Victorian novice middleweight. This is a trophy given to a Warrnambool Football Association by Harry Pritchard. He was a Warrnambool businessman who had the Warrnambool Sports Depot store in Kepler Street in the 1920s. The trophy was for the winner of the Warrnambool Wards Football Association. This was a Junior Association promoted by the Warrnambool Football Club and it existed from 1924 to 1930. It was proposed that the four Council Wards, Hopkins, Victoria, Albert and Merri each had a football team but it is not clear if all had teams and how many teams from other areas took part in the competition. The Pritchard Cup records that the Hopkins Ward Football Team won the trophy in 1926 and that Allansford, a team outside of the four wards, won in 1927. The records of the Allansford Football Club go back to the 1890s. This cup is of considerable interest, firstly as an attractive trophy in its own right and secondly as a memento of a football association connected with the Warrnambool Council Wards. Both the Council Wards structure and the Wards football association no longer exist. This is a silver cup with two ornamental handles, a slender stem and a silver base. The cup has a lid with a knob in the middle. The cup, lid and base are all heavily etched and patterned with scrolls, leaves and flowers. There is an inscription on one side of the cup. The cup sits on a circular brown wooden base which has a cloth or paste mixture affixed to the bottom. The wooden section has two silver plaques with inscriptions. There is a small piece of wood missing on the side of the top of the mount. ‘The Pritchard Cup presented to Warrnambool Ward’s (sic) Football Association by H. Trophy presented by The Corio Freezing Works Cricket Club to the Geelong Industrial Cricket Association in 1927 for competition and won by the Excelsior Mills 'A' Cricket Club for the 1929-1930 season.Trophy has cricket stumps and two crossed bats forming handle on lid. Lid attaches to a large cup with thin handles protruding either side, cup also features inscription on front. Below the cup is a thin metal stand with which the handles meet.
