This book was given in 1886 as a prize to Annie Egerton from Allansford State School. The prize was for recitation. Allansford State School No. 3 was opened in 1856 as a National School and is still operating. Allansford is about ten kilometres from the Warrnambool city area and most of the township is now within the boundaries of the City of Warrnambool. John Jones was the Head Master of the school from 1867 to 1891. No details have been found on Annie Egerton or her family This book is of interest because it concerns 19th century Allansford State School, Head Master John Jones and pupil Annie Egerton. It is also a book of antiquarian interest. This is a hard cover book of 436 pages. It has a green cover with gold and black ornamentation and black and green lettering. The pages are edged with gold colouring. The book has 36 chapters telling the story of the merchant, James Meetwell and some pages at the back giving details of other books available from the publishers, Ward, Lock & Co. This ledger comes from Wehners blacksmiths business, Orbost. It is a work/business ledger with the names of clients from 1937 to 1947. Herman Wehner came to Orbost in 1889 and established his blacksmith's business. He was later joined by his son Oswald (Ossie). Tom Wehner (Ossie's son) was the last blacksmith in Orbost when the business closed in 1991. The shop was on the south east corner of Nicholson and Raymond Sts, Orbost. This ledger is significant because it notes the the names of clients of Wehners blacksmith business from 1937 to 1947. This exercise book has been used by Winnifred (Winnie) Goodall in 1916 when she was a pupil at the Warrnambool Technical School. The material in the book mostly consists of letter-writing practice for business purposes. The Goodalls were pioneer settlers in the Warrnambool district with William and Ellen Goodall arriving in the area in the late 1840s. Eventually they had a property named Wanstead on the Allansford Road in East Warrnambool. One son, William, was an early manager of the Framlingham Aboriginal Settlement. Another son, Thomas, was a Warrnambool law clerk and Winnie, (born 1901 to mother Leah), was his granddaughter. The Warrnambool Technical School was established in 1913.This exercise book is of interest as an example of school work completed by a Warrnambool Technical School student in 1916. It is also of interest because it belonged to Winnie Goodall, a member of an important pioneering family in the Warrnambool district. This is a school exercise book with a cardboard cover and 17 double pages. The cover has a mottled pattern of brown and mauve and the pages have been attached by metal staples but the staples have been removed. The pages have blue ruled lines with handwritten material in blue and black ink. Some of the pages have red hand-drawn lines. The cover is slightly torn. On the first page two cartoon sketches from a newspaper have been pasted in. The front cover has a printed label in blue and white colouring pasted on, with handwritten information on the label. This prayer book was first published in 1978 by the Anglican Information Office on behalf of the Standing Committee of the General Synod of the Church of England in Australia. It was intended to be used together with The Book of Common Prayer. The book was not intended to replacement The Book of Common Prayer but to act as a resource and adjunct in more modern times. The prayer book can also be found online. The prayer book was presented to Canon Anthony by the people of Holy Trinity Church in Keck Street, Bendigo. This church began in 1904 as an outreach mission of St Paul's in Bendigo. The original church was on the corner of Hallam and Somerville Streets but moved to its present site in 1972. The church is still open and operational.
