These four pages list the Office Bearers and Committees of Melbourne Legacy in 1942. This is a record of Legatees involved in the first 20 years of Legacy. Some very notable names that were key in establishing Legacy, including Sir Stan Savige. It was in a folder of documents about the history of Legacy which appears to have been mostly compiled by Legatee Cyril Smith as he has many hand written notes on miscellaneous pieces of paper (some are envelopes addressed to him). The notes were typed up into a summary of the History of Legacy. Also documents relating to the first time Legacy approached the public for donations in September 1956, including newspaper articles that were reprinted, a schedule of information that was approved to be released to the press, and a list of potential donors that was circulated to Legatees in the hope they could contact the ones they knew personally or professionally. The documents from this folder have been added in seperate records (see 01262 to 01281). The folder was part of an attempt to capture history of Legacy, generally from the 1940-50s.The documents provide an insight into the working of Legacy, especially in the 1940-50s. Legatee Cyril Smith and others were detailing their experiences and knowledge for the future. This is a record of Legatees involved in the first 20 years of Legacy. A copy of information about Legacy published for members of the Intermediate Legacy Club to understand the Club's activities. The date is unknown. Background: The ILC was formed in 1929. The idea of the club sprang from those boys who had outgrown the Junior Legacy Club. In the early days it fielded a lacrosse team and it was this that mainly held the members together. Enthusiasm wained after a few years as it lacked a solid objective. The answer came from one of its members and in 1938 they founded the Don Esses Club. This was a club for the children of incapacitated ex-servicemen which met every Thursday night at 7.30 run by the ILC members. The name came from the signallers' code Disabled Servicemen's Sons. During the second world war 80% of the members of the ILC enlisted in the services. Leaving only 8 members that could not join due to ill health or reserved occupations. They continued the Don Esses and whatever aid they could to Legacy. ILC members had always helped Legacy where possible including being camp leaders or camp staff, with the annual demonstrations, and coffee stalls at the ANZAC dawn service. Post second world war some ILC members were nominated into Legacy, others drifted away in civil occupations. It was found difficult to recruit new blood into the ILC and eventually membership waned when the boys from the Don Esses clubs found other youth activities to join. The ILC ceased to meet regularly in the mid fifties. However a strong comradeship still existed between members and they would meet in one anothers homes. Members were always ready to help the senior Legacy Club in any way in their power and still helped at Christmas parties and summer camps. ILC was a service rendering organisation and was self governing. Non-sectarian and non-political, the members were ex-junior legatees over 18 years of age. After serving in World War 2 members were eligible to become members of Legacy. Was in a folder of material collated about the ILC by an early archive committee. In the middle of the 1950s a project was launched to appoint a chaplain to Ballarat's three technical school - Ballarat Junior Technical School, Ballarat Girls' Technical School and Ballarat North Technical School. A Committee was formed at a public meeting on 13 March 1957 - Ballarat Technical Schools Chaplaincy Committee. They needed to raise 1250 Pounds from contributions raised by the schools This was the required amount to pay the annual salary for a chaplain. Response was excellent and in December 1957 a cheque for 1266 Pounds, 4 Shillings and 5 Pence was sent to The Council for Christian Education in Schools. On 28 May 1958, Rev Norman Lee was commissioned as the Chaplain of the Ballarat Technical Schools at a service in the Civic Hall, conducted by the Very Rev, Sir Francis Rolland, with the Director, Major-General A H Ramsay, representing the Education Department. Working over three schools and the need for the Committee to raise 1200 Pounds each year, put a lot of pressure on resources. This stamp was used for official correspondence, minutes etc by the Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Committee in 1997. The occasion was the 150th anniversary year of the establishment of Warrnambool in 1847. The President of the Committee was Frank Jacobs and the Secretary was Gordon Reid. The donor of the stamp was a member of the Co-ordinating Committee.This stamp is part of the collection of items from Warrnambool’s 150th celebrations in 1997. It has no intrinsic value but the stamp may be used for future historical exhibitions.This is a modern self-inking stamp which stamps out ‘Warrnambool 150th Anniversary Co-ordinating Committee’. In 1966 the Victorian Parliamentary Library established a newspaper clipping service. This sign, among many created by the Library, provided helpful instruction to Members of Parliament on how they should treat collection material.
