The Kew Recreation Hall (1880-1960 was a major venue for civic events, exhibitions, theatre, concerts and in this case a commercial fashion parade.Arthur Henry Dear was an employee of the City of Kew, acting as Hall Keeper of the Kew Recreation Hall in Wellington Street, and later the new Kew City Hall in Cotham Road. The Arthur Dear Collection contains memorabilia - tickets, programmes, invitations - as well as his identification badge. Items in the collection dates from the 1940s to the 1970s. The Kew Recreation Hall (Wellington Street) and later the Kew City Hall (Cotham Road) were major locations in suburban Melbourne in the postwar period for civic and private events including theatre productions and exhibitions. The Arthur Dear Collection (in conjunction with the scrapbooks compiled by Marion Tilley) provide a comprehensive snapshot of performing arts in Kew during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s. The collection includes valuable data about performances, performers, directors etc., during this period. A’ Squadron 8/13 Victorian Mounted Rifles conducted a parade at Buna Barracks, Albury on Sunday 1 May 1988 to mark the 103rd Anniversary of the formation of the Victorian Mounted Rifles and the 40th Anniversary of the linking of the 8th (Indi), 13th (Gippsland) and 20th (Victorian Mounted Rifles) Light Horse Regiments to form the 8th/13th Victorian Mounted Rifles. Colonel G K Howard, Director of the Royal Australian Armoured Corps was the Reviewing Officer. The Pipes and Drums of the 5th/6th Battalion Royal Victorian Regiment provided the music for the occasion. The Sun Country Show Girl Quest, 1976. This presentation is on the stage of Wool Court on the Showgrounds. The compere in the suit is Brian Naylor. Naylor was an RASV Councillor from 1977-83 and a well-known news presenter, particularly for Channel 9. On the 28th & 29th of July, 1978, a second "Living with Arthritis - Aids to Daily Living" exhibition was held at the Peter Fraser Memorial Hall in Barkly St, Footscray. The exhibition, (the first of which had been held at Brighton's St Andrew's Parish Hall in May), was an educational and fundraising event in support of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria (RAAV). A fashion parade was one of the activities offered as part of the event. In this photo, four women model a range of outfits from Fred's of Yarraville which are easy to put on, comfortable to wear, and easy to care for. Standing on the stage next to them is the MC, Joan Watson. This photo appears on page 5 of the Vol 10, September 1978 issue of the Rheumatism and Arthritis Association of Victoria's quarterly newsletter, News Review. The article, which is accompanied by a photo, reports that around $1000 was raised for the AFV on the day. The photo accompanying the article is of AFV staff member, Sue Eagle, wearing a 1950s display wedding gown. The article states that Sue is pictured with Ian Howell from John Travers Studios. The event is also covered in the July 1988 - June 1989 Annual Report. This article is also accompanied by a photo - this time, of Helen Abicair (from Helen Abicair's Model Agency) with Ian Howell. However, in this article, he is stated as being from John Townsend Photographic Studios. Eye Guess was originally an American television game show, on which an Australian program, screened on 'Channel O' (now Network 10) in the 1960s, was based. The television programs spawned board games in both America and Australia.The American board game was produced by Milton Bradley, and featured the American compere of the show. A speech by Legatee Bill Rogers as he compered the State Final of the Legacy Junior Public Speaking Award in 2006. The Legacy run speaking contest was held from 1988 to 2021 and encouraged young secondary school students to speak on the topics of leadership, comradeship, citizenship etc. The State Final was held in the ABC IWAKI Auditorium on 2 November 2006. This program was for an event to celebrate the golden anniversary 950 years) of the official opening of Orbost's Commonwealth Hotel. It was organised by Chas and Una Roberts (nee Marshall) and was a fund-raiser for O.C.C.A. (Orbost Continuing Care}). This group was initiated by Brenda Murray who was the founding chairperson of the Orbost Continuing Care Appeal, which raised money to build an aged persons' facility for Orbost. The evening was compered by Graeme Eddy. The performers included: Victoria Strait, Leslie Strait, Norma Williams, Pauline Strait, Hoard Oberg and Wayne Stuart. All were accomplished musicians from New South Wales. Names unknown except for Elaine Ward who is seated in a red jacket in the third photo. There is a laundry basket as a hamper, perhaps for a raffle prize. The baked items have as sign "With compliments of Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse" so the items may have been donated for sale. A poster on the wall is of Daryl Somers and says "Hey Hey its Legacy Day" so it was either 1996 or 1997 when Legacy invited Daryl Somers to be Personality of the Year in 1996 and again in 1997.
