This photograph of a two storey building now the premises of Webb J.H. & Seng Hpa, Solicitors but once "The Union Bank". Its located at 153 Main Street Stawell. Previously the first Union bank was built in c 1888 on the corner Victoria Place & Main street and designed by designed by G. C. Inskip. This is the second Union Bank the first was second from the corner of Lanzell St. in Main St. and was eventually pulled down. The 1st bank was shown in photos by C. B. Herbert. Stawell Technical School, Skene Street Stawell. The school had its first origins in an inquiry in c 1882 by the inspector of Schools of Design. A meeting was called Sept.1882, the first outcome of this meeting, was to advertised for, Friday 12th October 1882 from 7.30 pm to 9.30 pm in the Mechanic's Institute. The School of Mines was opened in the old market building. Photograph is dated between 1901 and 1914 (James Nelson Undertaker in premises next to library - he took over business there in 1901 and died in 1914, after which business became 'Nelson Bros. Dated to late 1920s or early 1930s as Nelson building has been renovated as a Californian bungalow. This former bank building was contructed for the Union Bank of Australia in 1863-64 to the design of architect Leonard Terry. It replaced an earlier building that operated from 1857. The Union Bank disposed of the building in 1951 when it merged with the Bank of Australasia.Double storey bank building. The store is understood to have been first owned by the Treloar and Nicholls families before being purchased by J. H. Morgan (father of H. R.. Originally labelled "Beauville Estate, Established 1936, Still Thriving 65 years on, 10th March 2001", the Beauville Estate Album contains colour photographs of houses in the Estate. They were taken around the time of the Beauville Estate’s 65th Heritage Celebration held on 10/03/2001 and donated to the Caulfield Historical Society shortly afterwards. It is important also as a very early estate development incorporating a range of features other than houses and including made roads, shops and recreation facilities. In this respect it was the forerunner of the comprehensively planned housing estate of the post war era. The estate is distinguished by its aesthetic values, as is the earlier and comparable Hillcrest Estate, which are formed by a combination of restrained diversity in house styles, with the exception of no. 30 in the emerging International style, and by a landscaped garden environment.
