Alexander Robinson was born on the 19th March 1862 and lived on the family farm, Woody Park at Aitkins Gully Warrnambool. At 18 he moved into Warrnambool and began his coach building and automotive career with Fred Morse who was one of Warrnambool's earliest coachbuilders. The business which was situated in Fairy Street was later taken over by Callaghan Motors who operated from the same site until 2017. He married Miss Lydia Humm and they had five children. He was active in community affairs and was Mayor of Warrnambool from 1907-1909. He died in September 1932. This album has photographs dating from 1907 up to 1913 and show a variety of early motor vehicles, workers and machinery. Individual photos have names of owners some of which include John j Winter, June 1912,Dr J H Henderson August 1911, D Ronaldson Ballarat 1912, Edward Owen 1913 martin Brennan 1914. The sections inside the workshop show the engineering department, Body Making, painting and smith's shop. There are also a number of Vulcan cars for which they were agents. This album is a valuable source of early motor industry history in Warrnambool. There are many local scenes as backdrops to the vehicles . Unfortunately there are no names of people in the photos.Rectangular dark green cloth covered album which has black tape down the spine. Robinson's Patent Groats were a type of cereal product consisting of the hulled and crushed kernels of grains, likely oats or a similar cereal. They were marketed as a nutritious food, particularly for invalids, infants, and children. They were widely used throughout the 1930s until the 1950s. This container was produced after 1938 when the name "Reckitt & Colman Ltd" was adopted. Reckitt & Sons, a British manufacturer of household products, opened its first overseas business in Australia in 1886. In 1938, the British parent company, Reckitt & Sons, merged with J. & J. Colman (a mustard and food products business) to form Reckitt & Colman Ltd. This company then operated in Australia as Reckitt & Colman Australia Ltd. They traded as Colman-Keen (Australasia) Ltd, Australia in New Zealand until 1940. In 1995 the Colman’s brand was demerged from R & C and sold off to Unilever (UK) Ltd, then in 1999 the company merged with Benckiser NV to become Reckitt Benckiser which is now the largest supplier of cleaning products worldwide. This item is significant because it was used widely throughout Australia by mothers to improve nutrition of their children.The packaging for this cereal is a red and yellow cardboard cylinder with a metal base and lid. The label does not list specific ingredients. These vintage tins contained medicinal products to help relieve illness symptoms for the family at home in the 1900's. Two were manufactured in Australia and the two Ayrton's products were made in England.Three vintage medicinal tins and cardboard container. 1. Small Ayrton's heart shape Bismuth Indigestion Tablets tin with the Manufacturer details printed at the bottom of the lift up lid. It has a large red heart shape on a white background. Approx. 2ozs. It has a gold base with information for use and recommended dosages. 2. A small badly rusted and worn tin Ayrton's Sulphur and Yeast Tablets with seven red dots showing usage features of these tablets. Manufacturer details are listed at the bottom of the front lift up lid and the back of the tin has further information. 3. A cylindrical green Robinson's Patent Barley tin with a patterned rusted lid. The manufacturer details and usage information are indecipherable due to wear and rust. 4. A cylindrical lidded De Witt's Antacid Powder cardboard container with a rusted tin lid. Manufacturer details and usage are printed on a paper wrapper glued to the cylinder.1. This item is representative of an early Orbost business.A carbon copy pad of unused dockets branded for Robinson and Hayes, Butchers of Nicholson Street, Orbost. There is space for the details of the order including the description, price and total. There are two copies of each receipt joined together, one copy for the office the other for the customer. The paper is yellowing and has blackto print.. Each docket is numbered in red print - this pad begin with number 11 - and a carbon page is located at the front of the book. This plate was probably shortened to fit an office or factory door. Alexander Robinson (1862-1932) established a coachbuilding business in Fairy Street Warrnambool in 1880. In 1883 he joined with Fred Morse to set up the coachbuilding business of Robinson and Morse. This firm was noted for its production of fine Abbott buggies. Later Morse established his own business in Warrnambool and Robinson’s business continued at Fairy Street and converted to motor car building in the early 1900s. Alexander Robinson was Mayor of Warrnambool from 1907 to 1909. In the early 1930s Robinson’s Motors was replaced by Callaghan Motors. This business traded on the Fairy Street site until 2018 but now operates from Raglan Parade. The grandfather of one of the donors of this item, Tom Smith, worked at Robinsons Motor Pty Ltd in the early 20th century. This plate is of great interest as it came from the motor car business of Robinson’s Motor Pty Ltd. The Robinson businesses (coach building & motor car building) existed in Warrnambool for over 50 years. This is a brass business plate with three small holes at each corner. The lettering etched on the plate is gold and black but the black may have been put on to the lettering at a later stage as only some of the gold lettering is still visible. The plate has been cut off on one side and part of the lettering is missing.‘Reg. This stencil has been made to label packaged produce (wool bales, packaged meat etc) from a farm in Grasmere, near Warrnambool. The name, W. Robinson, suggests that this is William Robinson the son of James and Jane Robinson. James Robinson came to Australia in 1857 and he and his family farmed at Springvale at Hopkins Point, then at what was termed 'Manning's old Purnim Farm' on the Merri Rive at Grasmere (the Manning brothers, Frederick and John were early farmers in the district). The Robinson brothers, James and Stuart were well-known in the Warrnambool district as champion ploughmen. James's son, William married firstly Christina MacLennan and then Elizabeth Neale of Tooram, Allansford. William died in 1959 but the stencil was probably used on the property after his death. This farm stencil is of interest as a memento of farming at Grasmere in the first half of the 20th century.This is a metal stencil, oval in shape. The Northern District School of Nursing opened in 1950 in to address the issues around nurse recruitment, training and education that had previously been hospital based. The residential school was to provide theoretical and in-house education and practical training over three years. The students would also receive practical hands-on training in the wards of associated hospitals. The Northern District School of Nursing operated from Lister House, Rowan Street, Bendigo.
