This file contains eight items about the history and construction of church organs in the Glen Eira area: 1/A photocopy of notes on the history of the church organ in the Bambra Road Church of Christ (1 page). 2/A photocopy of an extract from the book ‘The Christ Church Chronicles 1901-2001’ p20-24, by Vi Manson, giving a detailed description of the life of the organ in Christ Church Anglican Church, Ormond. It describes the building, relocation, restoration, rededication and role of the organ in church activities. 3/Extracts from ‘Colonial Organs and Organbuilders’, p121-122, 126, 131, 140, 182-183, by E. N. Matthews, 1969, about organ installations, repairs and sales. It contains entries about organs previously and currently located in Murrumbeena, Caulfield, Elsternwick, Balaclava and Bentleigh. 4/A photocopied extract from a letter from Mrs. M. Portrait, Richard Cornish, 1989
The portrait was commissioned by St Leonard's College in 1989. Mr Cornish sat for the artist in his office dressed in his cap and gown. Initially the portrait was hung in the main school hall, before being moved to the Cornish Campus in the mid 1990's.Richard Burnet Cornish was principal of St Leonard's College from January 1971 to October 1989. He was a dreamer, a driver, a doer and a visionary leader who purchased the land for Cornish Campus in July 1981 and presided at the official opening in February 1987. Another of his achievements was the introduction of the International Baccalaureate for year 11 and 12 students in 1982.An oil painting of Richard Cornish in accademic gown in 1989, his last year as principal. Black and white negative, by Wal Jack, of PCC 980, northbound bound in Glenferrie Road at High Street with the destination of Kew Cotham Road. The Bank was replaced by a more modern looking building during the 1970's. In the background is the ES&A bank on the corner. Jane Nigro advised 9/9/2020: "1907 Photo of the E. S. & A. Bank on the corner of High Street and Glenferrie Road, Malvern. In 1885 land on corner of Glenferrie Road & High St. (40' x 150') was purchased by E.S. & A. Bank. A condition of sale was that the bank erect on the land a 'substantial brick building to be used as a branch bank', within 24 months. The E.S. & A. Bank, single-storey four roomed brick, was built in 1888. The first manager was Frederick Leonard. In 1907 a second storey, including residential quarters for the manager, was added to bank at a cost of £1400.The Bank was demolished in 1958-9and replaced with present building."trams, tramways, pcc class, glenferrie road, route 69, kew- cotham rd, tram 980 -

This album contains photographs from a variety of sources in Scotland, England, and Australia. The date range of the photographers ranges from around 1847 to 1900. There are photos of families and individuals and some are obviously linked. This album has historic and social significance in that it appears to be a collection of family photographs which link areas of Scotland with the coming of early settlers to Australia and in some photos obviously to Warrnambool. They provide an overview of fashion and styles pertaining to the 1870’s through to around 1900’s and hence it has interpretive value.Brown leather bound hard cover with raised geometric design on the front. Back cover is plain. Edges of pages are gilded and closed with brass- coloured hinged clasp with keyhole. Contains numerous photographs of individuals and family groups. There are generally four to a page, with some empty spaces towards the back of the album. Inside front cover in grey lead 472 or/-. There are photographers’ names on the backs of the photos including R Boning @ St Leonard on Sea, C Hawkins Preston St Brighton, W H Mason 21 George St Croydon, Batchelder & Co 41 Collins St, D Clarke Warrnambool, T.J.J.
