Established in 1891, Sunshine Primary School (SPS) is located in the City of Brimbank, west of Melbourne. The local community is diverse in its socio-economic and cultural backgrounds with approximately 42% of the school's students having a language background other than English. Sunshine Primary School has 24 equivalent full-time staff: 2 Principal class, 16 teachers and 8 Education Support staff. The school is driven by strong values and the belief that every student can achieve success. The school culture is focused on ensuring effective and enriched learning for all students through individualised instruction. There is a focus on continuous improvement which is based on research to ensure effective teaching and learning and to improve student learning outcomes. Sunshine East Primary School opened on 5th February 1952 on Duke Street, Sunshine. The school was built to relieve pressure on the Sunshine Primary School and the Sunshine North Primary School as Sunshine’s population exploded after WWII, driven by the post war migrant boom which caused a rapidly growing population growth in the Sunshine and Braybrook districts. Many of these new migrants were staying in the nearby post war Housing Commission estates in Sunshine and Braybrook. In the 2000’s, the district saw a falling enrolment in student numbers across Sunshine’s older suburbs, and this led to school consolidations. In 2009, the school merged with the Braybrook Primary School and Sunvale Primary School forming the new school Sunshine Harvester Primary School, The Sunshine East site ceased operation on the 31st December 2008 and the site was later cleared with all original’s buildings being demolished. The Sunvale Primary School was situated on Neil Street, near Hertford Road, Sunshine, on the former Moons paddock. The school was officially opened on the 9th of October 1957 with an enrolment of 214 students. Most of the students were transferred from the overcrowded Sunshine, and Sunshine East Primary Schools. The acting head teacher and five temporary teachers came from the East Sunshine Primary School from which about 170 students also came. During the later years the school operated as part of a three campus primary school complex formed between Sunvale Primary School, Sunshine East Primary School, and Braybrook Primary School. After the modern Sunshine Harvester Primary School was built on the East Sunshine Primary School site, the students from the Braybrook and Sunvale schools were transferred there. Sunvale Primary School was closed on 9th September 2009.The magazine is a historical record of the initial 40 years of the school and of activities associated with the school. It contains the names of the Principals, from Mr. Bartels in 1957 to Mr. A. Dash in 1997, and also the names of Chairs of the School Council, from Mr. F. Sanford to Mr. T. Cuddy. It also features articles on the history of the school, the mothers club, the parents & friends members, special events & features, class & staff photographs, sport, and has a memories section. Braybrook State School opened in 1873, replacing the old Albion No. 6 School that was located in Duke Street, Albion (Now Sunshine North). The school grew from a small bluestone rural school into one of the largest primary schools in Melbourne’s West, peaking at 811 students in 1960, before closing in 2008 and being demolished after a 2010 arson attack. In 1970, the school’s official name changed from Braybrook State School to Braybrook Primary School, following statewide naming reforms. In 2007, the school merged with Sunshine East Primary School and Sunvale Primary School to form Sunshine Harvester Primary School. In 2008, Braybrook Primary School officially closed and in 2009, the Braybrook campus ceased operation as part of Sunshine Harvester Primary School. In 2010, the former school buildings were destroyed by arson.
